Year 4
Home Practice 11th June 2021
A fantastic week back after half term – and hasn’t the weather been wonderful too! In Maths, we learnt more about fractions. We found fractions of amounts and started to find out more about equivalent fractions using different manipulatives, such as paper plates! In English, we started our new novel, Bill’s New Frock. We made predictions about the story and then wrote a diary account as if we were Bill. We enjoyed going on a nature trail to the pond and spotting the wildlife down there – we even saw a frog and some damsel flies. We started our new History topic, Anglo-Saxons and found out more about where these invaders came from and why they settled in Britain.
Keep up the good work Year 4!
Reading
Please read for 20 minutes each evening to an adult at home. Make sure you discuss the story and the characters. Find the meaning of any new words too. Reading every night will help you read more fluently and with understanding.
Times tables
You have been given your own individual times table target. Please make sure you continue to practise your times tables in preparation for your test next week, on Wednesday (16th June 2021). Ask someone at home to test you on your tables – can you recall them quickly and accurately?
You can also practise your tables playing ‘Hit the button’. Select the times tables or division button and then the table that you want to practise. This is an excellent way to practise your tables. Either type in ‘hit the button’ (the game is on Top Marks) or use the link below:
Spellings
This week we are learning how to use an apostrophe correctly when it shows possession, therefore there are no words to learn. We have however learnt the rules for using apostrophes, depending on whether the noun is singular or plural. A grammar challenge relating to apostrophes and plurals is on Sumdog to help you practise this rule.
Sumdog Challenges
You have been set 3 challenges on Sumdog:
- A grammar challenge based on plurals and apostrophes
- A maths competition based on tenths and hundredths
- A maths times table challenge (based on all the times tables)
Please make sure you log on and have a go!
