Year 1 Blog- Friday 17th June 2022
Date: 16th Jun 2022 @ 9:46am
Welcome to your Friday blog - we have really enjoyed the sunshine this week!
English
We continued to learn through the stories of Katie Morag this week. On Monday we wrote questions to ask Katie Morag and some of us pretended to be her. We read the story of when her big boy cousins came to visit and what happened when they played "Chickenelly". We then wrote a letter to Grannie Island to aplogise for all the mess the cousins made!
In Phonics we continued to practise all the sounds we have learnt this year.
Maths
This week we have been learning about where numbers are placed on a number line. We used the vocabulary most and fewest.
Science
We went outside to look at all the changes. We spotted that lots of the plants have grown really tall.
P.E.
We have been improving our throwing and catching skills again, focusing on catching bouncing balls.
We also enjoyed watching the Year 3 and Year 4 Sports Days. We were all excellent spectators. If you want to watch the videos of the Sports Days they are on the website.
P.S.H.E
We talked about being responsible and making good choices. We discussed how accidents can happen. We looked at photos of different scenarios and talked about what might happen and how we could make a situation safer.
Art
We used paper with different patterns on to collage a face for Father's Day-the finished pieces are brilliant!
R.E.
We explored good and not good choices, both in and out of the classroom. We sorted the choices and wrote our own in our books.
Geography
We have been learning about the continents and oceans of the world. We used atlases to independently find out information.
French
This week we took a trip to Carcassonne market and looked at all the lovely food stalls. We then tried to shop for fruit and pay with Euros.
Music
We played the Boomwhackers. The colours came on the screen in a different way so we learnt a new way to know when it was our turn to play.
We have been enjoying learning the Dance From The Heart every lunchtime. You are invited to come and see us all perform it on Tuesday 21st June at 9.45am.
Home Practice
Read for at least 10 minutes every night. This is so important. We are encouraging the children to organise their own reading books and to make sure they are in their green school bag every day. Please sign the diary so we can change the books. Keep practicing reading the Tricky Words on sight. Please just write a note in the diary if you need the next set.
Sumdog challenges
Phonics - oi and oy words
Maths - Fewer and most on a number line
Count on and back in 2s, 5s and 10s. Start on different numbers. Talk about whether the numbers are getting bigger or smaller.
See if your child can tell the time on an analogue clock. Look at o'clock and hald past.
