Year 1 Blog- Friday 24th June 2022
Date: 23rd Jun 2022 @ 9:58am
Welcome to your Friday blog- the last one of June!
English
We started a new series of books about the lighthouse keeper, Mr Grinling, his wife Mrs Grinling and their cat, Hamish. They have all sorts of adventures when looking after the lighthouse. Mr Grinling likes to eat and one day they had a problem with the seagulls eating Mr Grinling's lunch. We invented different ways that Mr Grinling could send the lunch without the seagulls eating it! We had really imaginative ideas! We did some writing about our invention.
Maths
We have been doing lots of challenges this week and trying really hard to apply our knowledge and skills. We have been learning about empty box number sentences and thinking carefully about what we are being asked.
Outdoor Learning
We worked in small groups in our nature area to do some wild weaving. We chose our tree and got busy weaving with wool and natural materials that we found. We were toally engaged with the task and produced some beautiful pieces. Have a look at the photos in the gallery.

We learned about the different climates in the world. We identified the hot and cold countries on a map.

We listened to and discussed the story of Zacchaeus the Tax Collector and compared it to the story of Levi from last week. We wrote some super sentences describing the similarities and differences!

Online Saftey Update - Live Streaming
Many of our children access YouTube and TikTok as their primary source of online content. Live streamers are becoming ever more popular with children and young people.
Live streaming is the term used to describe the broadcast of a real time video from a mobile device, tablet or games console. Many live streaming apps have functionality for interactions from viewers, such as commenting, live chats and sending reactions during the broadcast.
In this guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as online grooming, privacy & security and online reputation. Also, be aware of age ratings on any platforms you allow your children to use.
Home Practice
Read for at least 10 minutes every night. This is so important. We are encouraging the children to organise their own reading books and to make sure they are in their green school bag every day. Please sign the diary so we can change the books. Keep practicing reading the Tricky Words on sight. Please just write a note in the diary if you need the next set.
