Sumdog challenges
Maths - Place value - tens and ones
Phonics - Sounds learnt this week.
Sumdog update: Sumdog have just launched a new fluency booster that is automatically available when your child signs into the app. This feature will direct you to skills that your child needs to improve on to boost their number fluency and will automatically update to meet their fluency needs. We advise that your child spends at least 10 minutes a day on their booster feature as well as completing the maths focus.
Counting - We have continued to count in ones this week, especially when crossing boundaries (e.g. 19 to 20). Practise counting on from different numbers.
Reading - Please try to read each night, it makes a big difference!
Please remember to bring book bags in each day.
English
We have started learning about fairy tales, focusing on the story of The Three Little Pigs. We read this story in Reception so we were really good at repeating the words together.
We made a change to the story. We changed the wolf to our own bad character and re-wrote the story.
Phonics
Some of us have been recapping the phase 5 sounds.
Some of us have started to compare the different oo spellings. We have recapped oo in moon, ew in chew, u_e in flute and ue in glue.
Maths
We have continued to learn about place value and how numbers are made of tens and ones. We have been counting in ones to check that we know which numbers come next. We have also used the base ten to make different numbers.
R.E.
We learnt about Jesus being tempted in the desert. We talked about the word 'temptation' and how it can be tricky to do the right thing. We linked the story to Lent and we wrote a Lenten promise each.
History
We started our new History topic all about hospitals. We looked at pictures of hospitals from the past and compared them to present-day hospitals. We learnt that hospitals in the past were very dirty and dangerous!
Science
We started to learn about the weather, which will lead onto seasonal change later in the half term. We observed the weather and talked about different weather patterns.
P.E.
We started our underarm throwing unit. We learnt how to set our bodies up correctly, focusing on aiming our throw with our spare hand.
Art
We explored watercolour paints, creating our own design.
Music
We had a lot of fun experimenting with Chrome Lab (a free website that can be accessed at home) to create our own sounds. We will be using this website to make some high and low pitched sounds over the coming weeks.
