Year 1 Blog - Friday 8th July 2022
Date: 7th Jul 2022 @ 9:52am
Welcome to your Friday blog!
English
This week we continued to write our own versions of The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch. We focused on making our writing look beautiful on the page and making sure that we can read every word and sentence. We are nearly ready to read them to Year 2!
In phonics, we have continued to look at alternative spellings. We focused on the graphemes for ow (ow, ou and ough).
Maths
We have been learning how to partition 2-digit numbers to subtract through the ten (e.g. 12 - 8 = 12 - 2 then - 6). This was very tricky learning but we worked very hard! We also began recapping fractions. Have a go at the topmarks subtraction to continue practising taking away.

RE
We began our Neighbours topic this week. We learnt that everyone can be classed as our neighbour, even if they live far away. We read about a little girl called Marie-Doraine who lives in Africa. She taught us about her family, school, the food she eats and home life. We then drew pictures of our own family, food and favourite game.
PE
Miss Fisher was so amazed by our behaviour and skills in PE this week. We learnt how to play benchball for the first time! We used our throwing and catching skills in the hall to play a friendly game of benchball. It was so fun! We will play it again next week.
Geography
We used our fieldwork skills to observe the school this week. We used 4 of our 5 senses to observe what we could see, hear, smell and touch in different areas of the school.
French
We played traditional playground games. It was so much fun! We even practised counting to 10 to play the game.
Music
We played the glocks again this week in the green room. We are becoming much more confident!
We absolutely loved our morning in Year 2 this week! Mrs Sheen was so impressed by everyone! Please remember to bring your favourite book into school next Wednesday for the next transition morning.
