Year 2 Blog Friday 28th February 2025
Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 1:01pm
Welcome back after our half term break.
It was great to see everyone at Parent's Evening and
share/celebrate Year 2's learning and progress so far.
Home Practice
Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book. This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.
Spelling:
Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (07.03.25):
there their they're who what why when where which how
Sumdog:
Counting:
Starting at zero, count in tens forwards and backwards. Then choose a different one-digit number to start on. For example, 3, 13, 23, 33 or 9, 19, 29, 39.
Times Tables:
Our first times tables quiz went really well.
Next week, Thursday (06.03.25) we will quiz your knowledge of the 10x table in a muddled up order.
Follow the link below to play 'Hit The Button' and do a bit more practise on your 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables.

English
We read our new story, Manfred the Baddie by John Fardell.
The children drew the character and talked about different words (adjectives) they would use to describe him.
They learnt to write expanded noun phrases, which they will use for a character description next week.
Maths
The children have been solving muliplication and division word problems.
They found out that sometimes they need to share, group or draw pictures to work out the answers.
Science
We went outside to observe and draw the crocuses, daffodils and snowdrops which are growing.
R.E.
Year 2 wrote some beautiful prayers for our new prayer tree display next to the library.
We were very lucky to be the first class chosen and wrote prayers asking God to help Pope Francis get better soon.
P.E.
Our new focus this half term is games/fundamental skills.
The children thoroughly enjoyed learning and playing some 20th century playground games.
History
We found out about Tim Berners-Lee who was famous for inventing the World Wide Web.
Music
Year 2 have had great fun experimenting with Chrome Music Lab (a free website they may wish to visit at home) to create their own sounds.
We will be looking at this website to make some high and low pitched sounds over the coming weeks.
