Home Practice
Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book. This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.
Spelling: Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (06.12.24):
improve sure sugar eye could
would who whole any should
Sumdog: Complete the fractions challenge.
Counting: At home, count odd then even numbers. See how high you can go!
The children also need to spend more time learning their doubles and halves. For example, double 8 is 16 or half of 18 is 9.
Follow the link below to play 'Hit The Button' and practise doubling and halving.

English
This week we started our new novel, The Diary of a Killer Cat by Anne Fine. The children spent time looking at the front cover and the blurb, making predictions about what the story might be about. We thought about Tuffy the cat's good points and bad points. The children also wrote some excellent speeches from Ellie's perspective (character) about the poor little bird.
The standard of writing is really improving in Year 2, great use of interesting words and joining words.
Keep up the good work!
Maths
This week we finished our learning about halves andd quarters.
Science
We carried out an investigation to find out the answer tp the question, "do our feet grow as we get older?
PSHE
We played a game called "Stuck in the Mud". We then discussed how we cooperated when we played the game. We also came up with some ideas as to how we could help if we think people are being left out.
History/D.T
The children found out about some of the materials that were used to build Tudor houses, like wattle and daub and thatched rooves. They designed and planned how they would build their own model Tudor houses, ready for D.T day.
Please could you send your child into school with one or two cardboard boxes (no bigger than a shoe box).
Many thanks, we do have some spares but not enough for every child!
- My Happy Mind
We spent some time doing happy breathing and discussed the effect it had on us.
Year 2 said that when they did happy breathing it made them feel calm, peaceful, relaxed, joyful, happy
and ready for learning new things.
R.E/RSHE
The children learnt that we live in a diverse community and in response to that, wrote some fantastic diversity acrostic poems. We also discussed times we feel safe and unsafe in our communities. The children realised that when we do good things like helping other people in our communities God is always with us.
The Nativity play is going really well. Year 2 are being great singers, narrators and actors.
Don't forget it's on Tuesday 10th December in church at 2pm and 6.30pm.
