Year 2

Welcome to your Friday Blog.

Home Practice

Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book. This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.

Spelling:

Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (14.03.25):

knight     night     bare   bear      flower      flour        hear      here        see      sea

Sumdog:

Sumdog have just launched a new fluency booster that is automatically available when your child signs into the app.
For your challenge this week work on the new fluency booster.

Counting:

Starting at zero, count in fives forwards and backwards to 100.

Play the 'follow me' game where one person says the multiple of five and the other person says the next multiple of five. Continue like this, then try to go faster!

Times Tables:

Great work on your 10 Times Table.

Next week, Thursday (13.03.25) we will quiz your knowledge of the 10 division facts in order as seen below.

Manfred the Baddie

English

We continued our learning through the story of Manfred the Baddie. We closely examined the picture of his hideout and discussed what features an effective hideout needs. We designed and labelled our own hideout.

Manfred has henchmen who work for him. We wrote in role as Manfred as he decided he needed to recruit some more henchmen and hench ladies!

We wrote great descriptions of all the attributes and skills these people would need.

SPaG

We learnt about contractions, I'm, there's, here's, doesn't.

The Joyful Journey: The invitation to a holy Lent

R.E.

We had a lovely collective worship about the start of Lent.

We made our own Lenten promises which will be displayed in the hall.

My Happy Mind

We discussed all the experiences we are grateful for. We recognised how it is so important to take time to appreciate all the experiences we have.

Crocus 'Botanical Mixed'

Celebrate World Book Day 2025 - ReadingZone

World Book Day

Everyone looked brilliant in their costumes for World Book Day.

We read a lot of books and even had a parent come and read the end of day story (Zog) to us.

We also went outside and did a book scavenger hunt and designed our own book tokens.

Y2 really enjoyed the day!

Cherry Blossom in Japan - An in depth photography guide

We welcomed our visitors from Japan.

We are so lucky to have a student in Year 2. She is enjoying spending time with us and seeing how we learn.
