Year 2 Home Practice - 14th May 2021

Date: 14th May 2021 @ 3:54pm

Well done for all your hard work this week Year 2!

This week in English, we started our new story, Georges Marvellous Medicine. We have looked at George’s grizzly old grunion of a Grandma and we created some great character descriptions. We have also looked at poetry and rhyme. We attempted to create our own medicine poem. In Maths, we have looked at place value and placing numbers on different number lines. Our bean plants and cress are looking great and we have kept up with our diaries, carefully monitoring how they grow. In French this week, we started by trying to use our French phonics to spell numbers. We are getting better! Then we read the story Je m’habille et je te croque about a wolf who puts his clothes on before eating someone. We tried to learn the words for clothes by playing some games. During Mental Health Week we have made it a priority to get outside in the fresh air. We even managed to take part in some relaxing meditation sessions. This helped to focus our minds and let go of any worries we had.

Well done to the 22 children who have had a go at the SumDog challenges this week. Those children will receive dojos for going on and completing the work set. There will be a prize for the child with the most individual dojo points this week.

Reading

In Year 2 we aim to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every night and discuss the book with an older sibling or adult to help deepen your knowledge.

Reading books are changed every Monday so please remember to bring in your book bag.

Maths

This week we have looked at place value and putting numbers on a number line. The children have also been learning how to use information in tables to answer questions. The children continue to work hard to spot the key information to help us answer mathematical questions. In Maths we have had a big focus on talking through worded problems with our talk partner.

Please have a go at the challenges set on Sumdog.

Sumdog Challenges

Multiplication – x2, x5 x10 and x 3 tables

Maths – adding numbers to a number line, more and less than symbols.

Spelling Quiz – suffix -es

Please practise these spellings ready for your quiz every Friday.

We hope you have a relaxing weekend.
