Year 3 Friday 14th March 2025

Date: 14th Mar 2025 @ 2:39pm

Welcome to your Friday blog

We’ve had another fantastic week in Year 3! The children have been working so hard and showing great enthusiasm for their learning.

Home Practice

Keep up with regular reading at home and remember to change books when needed. Practising little and often makes such a big difference!

In maths, we have been applying our written methods to statistics questions. This has been a great challenge, and the children have shown brilliant problem-solving skills. We have set some Sumdog challenges to reinforce this learning and improve our number fluency.

Counting Practice - Next week we will be learning about fractions. Practise counting forwards and backwards in thirds, quarters, fifths, eighths and tenths.

Spellings have been sent home today—keep practising a little each night to help improve accuracy and confidence.

English

This week, we focused on recount writing, using Toro! Toro! as inspiration. The children wrote powerful pieces retelling the bombing of Sauceda. Their use of description and emotion was excellent—well done, everyone!

Maths

We continued developing our written methods and applied them to statistics questions. The children worked hard to interpret data in tables and charts, showing great resilience when tackling tricky problems.

RE

We learned about the Offertory and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The children reflected on why these parts of the Mass are so important and learned a new song to help deepen our understanding.

Freddie Fit Visit

Freddy Fit Workshops

On Wednesday, we had a fantastic visit from Freddy Fit! The children loved getting active and learning about keeping fit and healthy. It was brilliant to see so much energy and enthusiasm throughout the session—check out our gallery for some action shots!

Computing

We have been looking at how to design magazine covers using placeholders for text and images. This week, we created some fantastic templates using our brilliant Whizz, Pop, Bang magazines as inspiration. The children showed great creativity and attention to detail in their designs!

Music

Music | Poole Grammar School

This week, we used our iPads to create some amazing pieces of music. The children experimented with different sounds, rhythms, and melodies, producing some really impressive compositions. Well done, everyone!

Science

As part of Science week we had some baby chicks visit our class. We looked at them in detail and discussed the function of all their features. We then created some fantastic scientific sketches.

A great week of learning all around! Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
