Year 5 Blog Friday 7th July 2023
Date: 6th Jul 2023 @ 8:15am
Happy Friday and welcome to your Friday Blog.
We have had a great week this week. It has been art week and in Year 5 our topic was fashion design.
First we looked at 3 different fashion designers, we thought about how they were inspired and what patterns and colours they used.
The designers we looked at were:
Alice Fox
Rahul Mishra
Pyer Moss
Next we decided on our design brief, it was to design any type of clothing with a link to China. So we looked at traditional Chinese patterns, symbols, colours and pictues. Then we practised drawing and colouring some of these designs.
For our final piece we painted some backgrounds, added patterns onto these, and then cut out our clothing from these different designs. We were so pleased with the results!
We finished our DT project on frame structures. We tested out how sturdy they were with Reception by reading them the story of The Three Little Pigs. We then asked the children in Reception to see if they could blow down our frame structures with their mouth, a hand fan, or a hairdryer! Some of our frame structures survived all 3, some didn't survive the hairdryer!
You can see us with Reception in our gallery here.
In maths we have been looking at tables and graphs to find out information and to answer questions such as how many altogther, how many more, how many less, what is the difference.
In English we have read some more of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. We wrote a formal letter to Harry from Professor McGonnagall and also described Diagon Alley using exciting words and different punctuation.
Next week we are going be finding out about some of the Fantastic Beasts.
