Year 6 - St James CofE Primary School, Wardle : St James CofE Primary School, Wardle

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog.

This week in Year 6

English

Incredible and Touching Animated Short - LITTLE FREAK — GeekTyrant

In English we have been revising how to use active and passive voice, as well as modal verbs. We also edited our dialogues of 'Little Freak' and wrote our own version from the perspective of the father

Maths

Equivalent ratios and simplifying ratios - KS3 Maths - BBC Bitesize

This week, we have been learning about ratio. We have learned how to use scaling and how to share in a given ratio.

RE

Jesus' Farewell Discourse in Luke 22 – spoiledmilks

In RE, we shared the gospel story of 'The First Farewell Discourse' and wrote a diary entry in role as Peter, thinking carefully about his thoughts and feelings. We also read the gospel story where Jesus was arrested and brought before Pilate. We debated whether Jesus had a fair trail and discussed what made a trial fair.

Topic

In My Happy Mind, we continued our topic called 'Appreciate'. We thought about what we appreciated about ourselves, other people and experiences and learned how appreciation has benefits for our mental wellbeing.

In Art, we continued our portrait topic by drawing portraits of each other! We held a 'portrait club' session in class.

For Science we investigated how changing the voltage in a circuit affected the brightness of a bulb. You can see pictures of our investigation on the galleries page!

Homework - Kristina Stevenson's Classroom - SSD Public Website at Salem School District

Please complete the following tasks by Wednesday

Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen.

Books may be changed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spelling -

Spellings this week are from the Y5/Y6 and the Y3/Y4 statutory spellings.

We will have our test on the 21/03/25

It is useful to write the words down on the spelling sheet, but you could also ask someone to call the words out and spell them out loud. Other ideas include, breaking the words up and writing them down in different colours (accommodate). You could look for words within words (accompany) or think of your own ways to remember the word, for example, spell it aloud using a mnemonic or tune.
