Cathedral - Year 6 Page

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog.

This week in Year 6

English

P.T. Barnum | Biography, Circus, Facts, & Quotes | Britannica

In English we have been revising how to use parenthesis, commas and inverted commas. We created our own quizzes for the class to complete! We also created persuasive posters to encourage someone to come and see the greatest show on earth, inspired by 'The Greatest Showman'.

Maths

Multiplication And Division - App on Amazon Appstore

This week, we have been learning all about long division and practising being able to divide when there is a remainder. We also thought about how to choose an appropriate strategy to multiply and divide.

RE

Holy Week: Gethsemane | Merton College - Oxford

In RE, we have started our new topic 'desert to garden'. We made some beautiful title pages!

Topic

In PHSE, we thought about why it is important to 'think before you click' when posting things online.

In Science, we started our new topic on electricity. We learned how to use symbols to represent the components in a circuit.

For Art, we completed our topic on colour by designing our own colourful space!

In Music, Year 6 have used Flocabulary to listen to a rap about climate change. We have begun to write the lyrics to our own raps, and will use Garage Band to create our own drum loops to go with our raps over the next few weeks.

Homework - Kristina Stevenson's Classroom - SSD Public Website at Salem School District

Please complete the following tasks by Wednesday

Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen.

Books may be changed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spelling -

Spellings this week are from the Y5/Y6 and the Y3/Y4 statutory spellings.

We will have our test on the 7/03/25

It is useful to write the words down on the spelling sheet, but you could also ask someone to call the words out and spell them out loud. Other ideas include, breaking the words up and writing them down in different colours (accommodate). You could look for words within words (accompany) or think of your own ways to remember the word, for example, spell it aloud using a mnemonic or tune.

SATS Revision:

Today, the children have been given a login for SATs bootcamp. This is a fantastic website, which will really help with the children's SATs revision: https://www.yearsix.co.uk/sats-boot-camp/

Please complete the following topics for next Thursday

Maths - Topic 16: Shapes

English - Topic 10: Reading skills, vocabulary and language

Sumdog have just launched a new fluency booster that is automatically available when your child signs into the app. This feature will direct you to skills that your child needs to improve on to boost their number fluency and will automatically update to meet their fluency needs.

We advise that your child spends at least 10 minutes a day on their booster feature as well as completing the maths focus and times tables challenges.
