All Saints CE Primary School - Year 6

Welcome to the Year 6 weekly blog.

This week in Year 6

English

Little Freak by Edwin Schaap - Netherlands Animation, Drama Short Film | Viddsee

In English we have been revising how to use clauses, phrases and tenses in our writing. We were also inspired by the video 'Little Freak' to write our own dialogues from the perspective of Little Freak.

Maths

Fraction Circles Magnetic Accents - The School Box Inc

This week, we have been learning all about fractions. We have revised how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers. We have also learned how to multiply and divide fractions.

RE

Holy Week Reflection – the anointing at Bethany | Llandudno Methodist Churches

In RE, we shared the gospel story of 'The Anointing at Bethany' and wrote some beautiful prayers about what this scripture revealed to us about Jesus. We also shared and discussed the gospel story where Jesus washes the feet of his disciples. We reflected on what this story teaches us and how we can live this message each day.

Topic

In My Happy Mind, we began our new topic called 'Appreciate'. We thought carefully about what we appreciated about ourselves, other people and experiences.

In Art, we started our new topic and made visual notes for exploring our identity. We were inspired by the photographs of Thandiwe Muriu.

For spelling, we revised the ou letter string, prefixes and the suffix -ation.

Homework - Kristina Stevenson's Classroom - SSD Public Website at Salem School District

Please complete the following tasks by Wednesday

Reading - Use your home reading to read every night for 30 minutes. You also have a reading diary that must be used for the title of the book and any challenges chosen.

Books may be changed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spelling -

Spellings this week are from the Y5/Y6 and the Y3/Y4 statutory spellings.

We will have our test on the 14/03/25

It is useful to write the words down on the spelling sheet, but you could also ask someone to call the words out and spell them out loud. Other ideas include, breaking the words up and writing them down in different colours (accommodate). You could look for words within words (accompany) or think of your own ways to remember the word, for example, spell it aloud using a mnemonic or tune.
