Year 5 - Judge's Lodgings and Cottage Museum
Lesson: History
Class: Year 5 Year: 2021 - 2022
We have had a fabulous, immersive day at the Judge's Lodgings and Cottage Museum. The children have been really well behaved and enjoyed the day. Before lunch, we had a tour of a Victorian Cottage and were able to investigate and learn about the different rooms they would have had - including the wash room where they had an interesting way of getting their whites whiter. They experienced a lesson in the Victorian school with 'The School Master' - he didn't stand for any nonsense! After lunch, the children were given a trial as servants in the lodgings. They had to learn about the jobs in the kitchen that they would be expected to do, they tried their hand at polishing silver and brass and they learnt about the different courses that may be served at a dinner party and how to lay out the many pieces of cutlery and fold the napkins in a particular way.
It was a great educational but fun visit and I hope the children can fill you in on all the excitement.
