Year 1 Home Practice 7th May 2021
Date: 7th May 2021 @ 12:42pm
Welcome to your Friday blog!
We have really enjoyed reading all the Katie Morag stories. This week we read a story about a wedding on the Isle of Struay. We made some beautiful invitations. We have been carefully checking our writing and looking for ways to make it even better.
Next week we will be learning through the story of The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch.
In Maths we have been practising our 10 more and 10 less learning and looked at adding 1 and subtracting 1 to any 2 digit number. Everyone has really tried hard in their number lessons and never given up when our learning got tricky!
Mrs Quilliam showed us some flowers and we have explored them using magnifying glasses. We had a great time with Mrs Winter in our Music session this week playing our boomwhackers to some Red Riding Hood songs.
We had some special visitors in our Golden Assembly from The Players. We did some acting and some singing! Look out for a flyer and contact the office if your child wants to sign up. The sessions run on Fridays after school.
Home Learning
Continue to read every night. Your children are developing a love of reading and story and they are loving all the new texts we have added to our library.
Books will be changed on a Friday or a Monday. It is important to re-read the books we send home and ask lots of questions about what they remember from previous reads. Re-reading will improve comprehension as well as fluency.
We will extend the Sumdog maths challenges to give everyone a chance to complete them. If you have, look at the maths training and all new challenges will appear on the site.
This week we have been looking at the or, aw, au, al, or and ore sounds. Have a go at the spelling Challenge on Sumdog.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Year 5 Home Practice Friday 7th May 2021
Year 5 have had a busy four days this week. Well done for all your hard work and enthusiasm. In Maths, we have moved on to fractions, writing improper fractions as whole numbers and vice versa. We have also found fractions of amounts and looked at time intervals. In English, the children have learnt about autobiographies and biographies. They have thought about events in their own lives, ready to write an autobiography in chronological order and written some great wanted posters for a young Roald Dahl. In French, they carried out a survey, asking other children their opinions of various sports. It was wonderful to plant our wild flowers in the nature area. Fingers crossed they will grow and bloom.
Reading
Please read for at least twenty/thirty minutes every evening. Talk about what you have read with an adult. Discuss the story, characters and any new vocabulary you come across. If it is a non-fiction book, look at the contents page, glossary or index and see how it helps you find more information.
Y5 book changing day is Friday. Although, some children may change books at different times, so always bring your book bag into school every day. Remember to sign when you have finished a book, it makes it much easier to issue new books.
Remember to complete your

We have had a wonderful week in Year 3.
We have been writing newspaper reports in English and in Maths we have been looking at different ways to add numbers together.
In PSHE we talked about keeping safe in our community and online, we discussed the importance of only speaking to people we know online and to tell a trusted adult if something worries us. We also thought about keeping healthy and looking after our teeth, we all agreed that it is important to brush our teeth in the morning and at night and to eat healthy food.
We had to dash inside in our PE lesson on Thursday due to the rain, but we loved playing bench ball and dodge ball and worked so well as a team.

A great week Year 5, you have been working very hard in all subjects. In Maths, we have moved on to coordinates and translations. We have completed our novel Room 13 by Robert Swindells and will move on to our next novel, Boy by Roald Dahl. I know a lot of you are looking forward to that. During outdoor learning, it was lovely to be outside in the sunshine, blossom spotting and our wild flowers are growing very quickly now. In Science, the investigation on bottle flipping was a success and the results and recording were very interesting. The storyboards you designed in RE were great and explained what happened on the road to Emmaus. You also used a lot of quotes from the scripture reading. The after school clubs have been a success, it

Welcome to your Friday blog.
This week we have been finding out even more about Katie Morag. We wrote some instructions for her to help her to tidy her bedroom. We met her big boy cousins who got up to mischief!
In Maths we have been reading, writing and drawing numbers. We have been making numbers up to 100 with Numicon and looking at comparing and ordering 2 digit numbers. Super learning everyone!
We have been learning about the different continents and looking at an atlas. We heard lots of good questions and even renamed our tables.
In P.E. we continued with our Athletics skills with bean bag races - we were very competitive and showed great encouragement to eachother!
PE kits - We have been sending everyone home in their PE kits on Tuesdays so to get the full 2 hours of PE and not lose any learning time getting changed at the end of the day. However we would like everyone to have their kits in school everyday as we will be doing lots of sports in the Summer term.
Every day we run our daily mile, well done to Willow who was awarded the daily mile trophy in Golden Assembly this morning.
Home Learning
Read, read and read some more. Children who read regularly make huge progress in their fluency and understanding. Embedding good reading habits at this stage will create a love of reading and set your children up to succeed.
We will change the reading books on Tuesday. Please make sure all books have been read and diaries signed.
We have also set up some spelling and number challenges on Sumdog. Regular practise of spelling and number facts will prepare the children for any new learning they meet at school. Well done to everyone is including regular skills practise into their daily routines.
Spelling - Words beginning with consonant blends
Maths - Shape challenge and Number skills
Have a lovely long weekend and we will see you all next week.

Date: 23rd Apr 2021 @ 12:21pm
We have had a lovely week in Year 3. We all came back ready to learn and looking even more grown up than before.
This week we have made the most of the sunshine with outdoor English lessons, playing on the field, 5 minutes of running every afternoon, PE, and planting seeds. In PE we have started to practise striking and fielding skills. This week we were playing throwing a catching games with a tennis ball. If you have a tennis ball or a small ball at home, it would be great to practise with somebody.
We celebrated Earth Day on Thursday with some geography and art work. We talked about how important it is to look after our earth every day so that future generations can enjoy it. We came up with some ideas including using less plastic, recycling, walking or cycling to school, using less electricity, and eating less meat.

What a great start to the Summer Term Year 5! You all look very smart in your summer uniforms and have come back enthusiastic and ready to learn. It was lovely to be outside doing cricket and tennis in the sunshine during our PE lesson. I was impressed with your throwing, catching and racket/bat skills. In English, we are continuing our work on the novel, Room 13 by Robert Swindells and you wrote some creepy descriptions of what you think was inside room 13. The poems for Earth Day were also very good with fantastic vocabulary choices. In Maths, we worked on adding multiples of 10 to 6-digit numbers, partitioning 7-digit numbers and decimals. For Outdoor Learning, we planted some wild flower seeds which will look great on the school grounds when fully grown.

Online Safety - 21st April 2021
Date: 21st Apr 2021 @ 1:29pm
Using social media websites is among the most common activity of today's children and adolescents. Any website that allows social interaction is considered a social media site, including social networking sites such as Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat and Twitter; gaming sites and virtual worlds such as Club Penguin, Second Life, and the Sims; video sites such as YouTube; and blogs. Such sites offer today's youth a portal for entertainment and communication and have grown exponentially in recent years. For this reason, it is important that parents become aware of the nature of social media sites, given that not all of them are healthy environments for children and adolescents. - From the American Academy of Pediatrics
