It was lovely for us all to gather together for the Leavers Mass on Wednesday, with special thanks to Father Michael for giving us his wishes of hope for the future.
The Leavers Assembly had a few parents in tears with great memories shared and excellent hopes and dreams – we cannot wait to see what your children achieve in the coming years.
On Thursday, we took a trip to the Liverpool Cathedral to complete our Faith in Action and to remember the time this class have spent together these past 7 years.

DT and PE Stars!
We have had a brillant week of learning this week. Thank you for all supporting our DT event. The children were amazing and had a fantastic time designing and preparing their very own afternoon tea. They showed off their DT skillls and enjoyed keeping you all busy with their active playtime.
This week we also finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The children have been emmersed in a world of wizardry of the last few weeks and created some stunning pieces of writing. Well done everyone!
In our Maths learning this week we have learned how to use partitioning to help us bridge 10 and 100. We also looked at using this strategy when finding the difference.
As part of our computing topic on animation, we have been creating some whiteboard animations. Keep and eye on our galleries for some of our creations. We have started to plan our own animations using toys, action figure, doll or lego. The children have been asked to bring in 2 'characters' to star in their animation. If these could be sent in by Wednesday as we will start filming that afternoon. If you don't have something, we can use some of the figures we have at school.
Home Practice
Continue to read regulary, especially over the holidays. A daily 10-15 minute read is the key!
Continue to access the training feature on the Sumdog platform for maths and spelling. A little practise everyday helps to embed learning and promotes fluency in both spelling amd maths.
Have a lovely weekend!
The Year 3 Team.
Year 5 Final Blog - 17th July 2022
Date: 15th Jul 2022 @ 3:46pm
Welcome to this week’s Year 5 class blog
This will be our final blog for this year, doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun! I would like to thank you for all your hard work and support this year, the children have been a pleasure to teach and I wish them all the best for next year. They are all ready to face the challenges of year 6 and I look forward to coming back and seeing them all at their production next year! Many thanks again, and a very fond farewell.
This week in year 5
In Maths, the children have worked on adding and subtracting decimals of different decimal places and have completed their final arithmetic quiz of the year! They have worked really hard to consolidate all of the strategies and knowledge gained over the year to show how much they have learnt.
In English the children were challenged to write a short story with a build-up and dilemma, to show Mr Mears all that they have learnt this year. They were given two photographs as inspiration and then planned and wrote a fantastic piece of work. They did themselves proud.
In RE the children have continued to work hard on their stewardship topic and have shown outstanding understanding. They are really learning to link the scriptures that we read to the learning taking place.
In PE the children had their last lesson practising net and wall techniques in tennis. They have really enjoyed this topic and they have improved their aim and power skills using good hand-eye coordination.
In computing, the children completed some online safety training, looking at commenting online. They were given access to comments on seesaw and had to think carefully about comments they made on others work and the consequences of not being nice. This was linked on online social media and the responsibility they have of using it appropriately in the future.
The children have been practising their singing for the Joseph show next week. They have the weekend to have their final practises at home and really learnt all the songs before the dress rehearsal on Monday and the live shows on Tuesday. Please encourage them to practise at home.
The children had a great time on Wednesday at Tough Kidder. I was told, “All the teachers join in!” Once I was wet through, I realised I had been duped! The children have been chatting about how fun it was all week and it really has been a highlight for them as we approach the end of their year 5 journey.
DON’T FORGET
Reading books need to be returned to school by Monday 18th July
Children need to bring in black leggings or black shorts for the dress rehearsal on Monday 18th July. Boys may wear their school shorts if they wish. They must be plain black without logos etc. The children will be provided with a coloured t-shirt on Monday. Please come to school in uniform as normal but bring black shorts or leggings with them.
Please can you send a carrier bag in with your child, with their name on so they can bring all their work home in it.
Over the Summer
Please remember to encourage your child to continue to read over the summer holidays and discuss with them what they have read. Ask them to summarise what they have read, or ask them questions about the characters in the book. These are skills that will help them hit the ground running next year. There are lots of maths games online that the children can play during the summer. If you type Topmarks maths into google and select key stage 2 games. There are all different kinds of skills to practise, whilst having fun.
Sumdog has a challenge section where the children can undertake diagnostic challenges and then it will provide them with a range of challenges at their level to help them develop. Feel free to access these over the holidays.
Date: 15th Jul 2022 @ 3:33pm
This week we have been learning all about going on a Safari.
The children have written their own Safari Dairies about what animals they have seen and how the felt when they saw them.
We have also really enjoyed joining in tough kidder, all the children completed the course and were very wet!
We had a go at orienteering, we had to follow the maps to the different colour cones and work out the pattern. We did this really well in teams.

Year 4
Home Practice 15th July 2022
Welcome to this week’s blog. Here’s what we have been learning this week ….
In English, we drew and labelled a picture of Bill’s playground using evidence from the text. In addition, we looked at the features of a playscript. Following this, we wrote our own playscript using Chapter 3 of the novel and then acted this out.
In Maths, we learnt different strategies for mental addition. We practised these using a numberline. We also practised our tables playing different games in class.
In RE, we continued our topic, God’s people. We learnt about the life of Oscar Romero and Saint Teresa of Calcutta and discussed what made these people extraordinary.
During our PSHE lesson we learnt what ‘risks’ were and how to assess and manage risk in different situations. Following this, we discussed how we can be influenced by our peers and how to manage this influence.
In Science, we continued our topic of ‘Teeth and digestion’. We revised the different types of teeth in our mouths and their function. We also set up an experiment to find out what damages teeth. We used boiled eggs and left them in different liquids to see what effect the different liquids would have on the egg shells. We are looking forward to finding out the results next Monday. We also learnt the names of the basic parts of the digestive system, labelled a diagram and described how the digestive system works.
In Art, we sketched different patterns and shaded them in carefully. We repeated the same pattern 4 times and and experimented using different grades of pencil. We were impressed with our sketches and how different pencils made different marks.
We also had great fun at the Tough Kidder event on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you for the sponsorship money, this is being put towards the firepit for our Forest School.
REMINDERS
Please:
- bring you PE kit back into school – you will need it next week.
- return all reading books by Tuesday 19th
- bring a carrier bag into school on Monday for everything you will need to bring home next week.

We continued to learn about our neighbours. We drew a picture of a good neighbour and wrote about how God loves our neighbour, just like we should.
P.S.H.E.
We talked about what these words mean and how we can help to look after our planet by doing them. We made posters about saving water, turning off electricity and using less packaging.
.
Art
We made a whole class collage ready to be displayed in Year 2!
Geography
Miss Fisher took half of the class on an observation walk around school. They then drew a bird's eye view map of the infant building and surrounding outdoor areas. The second half of the class will be completing their map next week!

Year 4
Home Practice 8th July 2022
Welcome to this week’s blog. Here’s what we have been learning this week ….
In English, we chose 3 characters from Chapter 1 and described how they treated Bill. We complemented our work by drawing a picture of the characters. In addition, we wrote a diary account from Bill’s point of view which included lots of thoughts and feelings.
In Maths, we learnt how to round decimal numbers to the nearest whole number and revised some mental addition strategies.
In RE, we started our new topic – God’s people. We learnt about the life of an 8 year old boy called Eric who lives in Rwanda. We then compared his life to our own. In addition, we discussed role models, the qualities we like in them and what makes someone extraordinary.
In PE, we took part in an orienteering activity. We used a map to follow a sequence of cones – this was quite challenging at times, especially if we had the map upside down! In addition, we practised our tennis skills and attempted to return the ball to our partner accurately!
In French this week, we drew a monster and coloured it, then described it using super sentences. The children had to make the colours match the noun eg les jambes is feminine plural so the colour had to be feminine plural as well. Some children even managed to include a negative sentence too - great job, year 4.
During our PSHE lesson we finished our clips videos on the ipads. We were all delighted with our videos which included ideas of simple changes we can all make to reduce plastic pollution.
In Geography, we completed our double page spread about climate change. We wrote sections about what causes climate change, and how we can try and reduce global warming. We were all incredibly proud of our work which is bright, colourful and informative.
In Science, we started our new topic – Teeth and digestion. We looked at our teeth in a mirror and then identified the different types of teeth in our mouths and their functions.
This week’s Home Practice ….
Reading
Please read for 20 minutes each evening to an adult at home. Make sure you discuss the story and the characters. Find the meaning of any new words too. Reading every night will help you read more fluently and with understanding.
Times tables
Please make sure you continue to practise your times tables and division facts, especially those that you find tricky. Ask someone at home to test you on your tables – can you recall them quickly and accurately?
Remember - you can also practise your tables playing ‘Hit the button’ and https://www.timestables.co.uk/
Please continue to practise your tables as they will prove invaluable in Year 5 and 6!
Counting
This week, please practise counting in 12’s – draw a line and some marks on it like I do in class. You could write the numbers down as you count up. When you count down, cover the numbers up, say the number, then reveal what you have got written down to check you’ve said the correct number.
Count in 12’s
For example, start at 0 and count up to 144 and back again
0 12 24 etc 144 132 120 etc
For example, start at 1.2’s and down up to 14.4 and back again
0 1.2 2.4 etc 14.4 13.2 12.0 etc
Spellings
The spellings this week all have the prefix ‘auto’ or ‘sub’. A prefix is a group of letters that are added to the beginning of a word and change the meaning or make a new word. ‘Sub’ means under or below and ‘auto’ means self-controlled or about yourself (eg autobiography). The spellings are on Sumdog this week and will be tested next Friday (15th July 2022).
automatic autograph autocue autopilot autobiography
automobile automatically submarine subway submerge
submit subdivide subheading subordinate
Sumdog challenges
You have been set 3 challenges on Sumdog:
- A spelling challenge based on the spellings above
- A maths challenge based on the 6 and 12 times tables
- A maths challenge – rounding to the nearest whole number
Please make sure you log on and have a go! Many of you are still not accessing Sumdog on a daily basis. Little and often is the key to success!
Number bonds
Number bonds are very important and help with many aspects of maths. The more confident you are with these, the easier you will find addition, subtraction, mental calculations etc. Therefore, please continue practising your number bonds / addition skills playing Hit the Button
The game you will play will help with your number bonds and quick addition skills. For example:
8 + 6 you could partition this into 8 + 2 + 4 = 14
This is because 8 + 2 is a pair to 10, then add the 4 to 10
Click on the link above, then on Play Game.
Click on Number bonds
On the left-hand side you will see the words ‘Up to 20’
Click on Addition within 20
See how many you can get correct in 1 minute. Then have another go and try and beat your score.
Maths and spelling training
Please continue to use the maths and spellings training sections as these are tailored for your child to practise skills, facts and words that they find difficult.
Date: 8th Jul 2022 @ 2:53pm
Welcome to this week’s Year 5 class blog
This week in year 5
In Maths, the children have completed a number of assessments, including reasoning and their times tables check. They have all worked so hard. I am very proud of the work they have put it. We have also had time to work on adding decimal numbers up to 3 decimal places. We have looked at adding decimals when they have a different number of integers (the number in front of the decimal) e.g. 25.272 + 346.081 = and we have also practised adding when the number of decimal places is different e.g. 390.45 + 283.173 =. The children have practised this in my different ways, including word problems.
In English we have again worked on some assessments but we have also managed to complete our novel Varjak Paw. The children seemed to have really enjoyed the book and for those avid readers there is a follow up book called Varjak Paw the Outlaw, the author is S. F. Said. We have written lots of work using a variety of features to show everything we have learnt this year, including a set of contrasting descriptions of the different settings from the book.
In Science, the children researched insects and amphibians as part of their life cycles topic. They had to find out the names of the creatures at the different stages, how they changed and whether they undertook full metamorphosis or partial metamorphosis.
In RE we continued with our topic of stewardship. The children were able to go outside and take photos and videos of our wonderful world and then wrote why it was precious to them. We also read scripture about creation and discussed what this meant in terms of stewardship and our responsibility of looking after God's precious earth.
We had a special visitor this week in French. Mr Hennigan, who is Head of Modern Languages at All Hallows came to join us for the lesson. He was so impressed! He said, "The standard of French in Y5 is amazing! Their pronunciation is exceptionally good and their grammatical knowledge is very impressive!" Very well done to everyone who joined in wholeheartedly with the lesson. You did St Oswald's proud!
In PE many of you will have seen the children enjoying their tennis session. This was slightly shorter than usual due to the lovely parent's afternoon. The children did however manage to practise their skills keeping the ball bouncing on their racket to improve control and force, they threw a ball to their partner who had to hit it back to them to catch, to improve aim and control power and finally we had a competition like last week where the children had to return a serve.
We have had 2 afternoons of PSHE this week to conclude our topic on careers. The children discussed the different careers they might like to take on in the future and whether these were realistic expectations with their skills and abilities. We looked at what they would need to work on to make these ideas and dreams a reality. We then went on to look at the importance of a range of jobs, the children ranked 17 careers in order of importance. Then I challenged them on the importance of each job, and they concluded that many jobs are important, and it really depends on the situation. I then shocked them by revealing the average wage of the different jobs and the children were able to discuss what wages they thought were unfair and unjust. This sparked a discussion on choosing a job based on wages over interest, vocation and enjoyment. We then went on to look at stereotypes in jobs, where these come from and how they, as future adults, can help to break these stereotypes. We had a discussion on job choices and training with link to university, college and apprenticeships and this all gave them food for thought. They worked really well and debated the topics in a respectful and mature manner.
Home Practice all relates to this week's learning - These are the tasks to be completed.
Reading - You all have a Home Reading book for year 5 so reading every night for 15-20 mins is essential. You also have a Reading Journal/Diary that must be completed and signed. Some children had a break from reading over the holidays but please ensure this is made a priority now that we are back at school. Practise is vital to improve in all areas of English.
You can change your reading book on any school day (book bags to be left on Mrs Mulgrew's desk)
Maths – please ask your child what their times tables target is and help them practise this in order for them to progress.
Spelling words are homophones part 2
alter altar farther father guessed guest heard herd passed past their there they're here hear
Sumdog challenges
PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILDREN TO COMPLETE THE SUMDOG CHALLENGES, MANY CHILDREN ARE STILL NOT ACCESSING SUMDOG.
Please encourage your child to complete the Maths and Spelling Training. As you know, we set weekly challenges that are linked to the learning that takes place in school. As an extra feature, the maths and spelling training sections will provide a tailored challenge for your child to practise skills, facts and words they find difficult. Once the diagnostic challenges have been completed Sumdog will set challenges to aid improvement and development in the appropriate areas for your child. Once you have completed the class challenges, please use this feature for extra challenge in both maths and spelling. Many children have still not completed the diagnostic section.
Times tables have been set to reflect class targets
Maths the children have been set activities relating to adding and subtracting decimals.
Spelling words homophones and near homophones.
Year 6 Blog - Friday 8th July 2022
Date: 8th Jul 2022 @ 1:45pm
Welcome to another Year 6 blog. Year 6 completed their ‘Advanced Cycling’ course this week, which focused on how to keep safe whilst practising on our school playground. After all this practice, please continue to help your child learn how to keep safe and, if you think they are ready, take them on the road.
Just to note that this course does not allow the children to ride on the road - that is a decision up to the parent/carer.
This week in Year 6:
- Rehearsals are coming along with more stage directions and dances being included. We are becoming excited to show you our production, in just a few weeks’ time.
- In Maths, we have been improving our calculation knowledge with quicker times tables to help with large multiplications.
- In English, we have learnt that Aiden’s uncle is really a villain and what that might mean for future of the story. We also wrote about our love of reading and what our favourite books have been.
- In Music, we have used the time to give extra rehearsal practice to perfect the songs before we go into our final week of rehearsals.
- In PSHE, we explored what a good friend is, what a good friend does and what a good friend does not do. This should help us to identify new friends when everyone transitions to high school.
- In French, we practised the phonic sound et/er/ez. Then we practised our cafe conversations - Mr Hennigan, Head of Languages at All Hallows came in and he was very impressed with the children's pronunciation. Finally we watched the first episode of Le Fantome Cycliste - a drama related to the Tour de France.
- In Science, we discussed the dangers of electricity, learnt how to represent circuits in symbols and we had a go at making simple circuits.
- Finally, it was great to see the parents/grandparents who visited our class to celebrate the learning in our books. If you did not have chance to make it, do not worry, as all the books will be coming home in two weeks.
Home Practice
Please continue to rehearse these three tasks:
- Continue to learn all the words from your script and any acting parts you have been given.
- Learn all the songs so you do not need to read the lyrics – all 14 are uploaded on a separate blog named, ‘Joseph production song lyrics 2022’.
- French – please keep learning the song, 'Je suis un enfant de paix' on Youtube.

Happy Friday everybody.
We have had a lovely week in Year 3. We loved showing off our amazing work on Thursday afternoon. Thank you for the amazing turnout. It was lovely seeing the children show off the work they are proud of. We will send home some books at the end of year so don't worry if you missed out.
We have finished planning our wellbeing afternoon. We have brought home the ingredients which we need to buy. We spoke about changing ideas if we need to if shops don't have what we need or we change our mind. Our wellbeing afternoon will take place on Thursday 14th July at 2pm. We are looking forward to preparing afternoon tea for somebody, teaching them some exercises and doing some mindful colouring.
In our PSHE this week we have been talking about different ways to be active on a daily basis. We know that it is important to be active because it keeps us fit and healthy and also helps us to feel happy and confident.
We had a very exciting morning on Wednesday for our Moving up morning. We spent some time in Year 4 and loved it.
Home Practice
Reading
Read out loud to somebody every day for 20 minutes. Talk about what you have read.
Counting
Count out loud in:
4s from 0 to 48 and back again.
40s from 0 to 480 and back again.
Times Tables
Choose a x table you don't feel confident with out of 2, 3, 4, 5, 8. Practise every day.
Spellings
Have a practise on the spelling training on Sumdog. It will give you the spellings your child needs to work on. 5-10 minutes practice a night is plenty.
DT
Remember to get your ingredients for your afternoon tea.
Have a fantastic weekend!

Year 2 Home Practice Friday 8th July 2022
Date: 8th Jul 2022 @ 9:55am
A very exciting week in Year 2, the children had a fantastic time on our school trip to Skipton Castle. They really enjoyed exploring and seeing what daily life in a castle was like. Well done to everyone for listening so carefully and using lovely manners. Moving up morning was also a lot of fun and really good for the children to experience time as juniors. They are definitely ready for the new, challenging and interesting learning Year 3 will offer.
Reading
In Year 2, children should read for at least 15 minutes every night and talk about what they have just read. This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.
Please sign and leave a small comment when you have read with your child and make it clear that you have finished a book, then we know we can change it.
Reading books are changed every Monday and sent home on Tuesday. However, if you need to change a book another time, we will change it as needed.
Reading resources:
Oxford Owl – This resource has an exciting range of carefully levelled books to help children learn to read and really enjoy it.
Please access phase 5 books. Go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ and select ‘my class login’. Scroll down to the ‘eBook Library for Letters & Sounds’. You could also explore the rest of the site and read books from the Oxford Owl eBook library or listen to audio books.

In addition to this, reading a good bed time story to your child is so worthwhile and really helps towards a lifelong love of reading.
Spelling
Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (15.07.22). A sheet will go home on Friday with the spelling list on. This is to do at home and can be kept with you.
It is useful to write the words down on the spelling sheet, but also to call the words out and spell them out loud using the letter sounds or names. Other ideas include breaking the words up and writing them down in different colours (pleasure). You could look for words within words (division)or think of your own ways to remember the word for example, spell it aloud using a tune or song.
You will have a Sumdog challenge on these words to complete by next Friday.
This week’s spellings are:
television pleasure
treasure measure
usual occasion
division usually
vision leisure
Maths
At home, play the ‘follow me’ counting game that we play in school. Take turns to count to 100 forwards or backwards. You could start and finish at any number. Try counting faster to make it more challenging.
You will have a times table and number challenge on Sumdog to complete by next Friday.

Year 1 Blog - Friday 8th July 2022
Date: 7th Jul 2022 @ 9:52am
Welcome to your Friday blog!
English
This week we continued to write our own versions of The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch. We focused on making our writing look beautiful on the page and making sure that we can read every word and sentence. We are nearly ready to read them to Year 2!
In phonics, we have continued to look at alternative spellings. We focused on the graphemes for ow (ow, ou and ough).
Maths
We have been learning how to partition 2-digit numbers to subtract through the ten (e.g. 12 - 8 = 12 - 2 then - 6). This was very tricky learning but we worked very hard! We also began recapping fractions. Have a go at the topmarks subtraction to continue practising taking away.
Topmarks subtraction number sentences
RE
We began our Neighbours topic this week. We learnt that everyone can be classed as our neighbour, even if they live far away. We read about a little girl called Marie-Doraine who lives in Africa. She taught us about her family, school, the food she eats and home life. We then drew pictures of our own family, food and favourite game.
PE
Miss Fisher was so amazed by our behaviour and skills in PE this week. We learnt how to play benchball for the first time! We used our throwing and catching skills in the hall to play a friendly game of benchball. It was so fun! We will play it again next week.
Geography
We used our fieldwork skills to observe the school this week. We used 4 of our 5 senses to observe what we could see, hear, smell and touch in different areas of the school.
French
We played traditional playground games. It was so much fun! We even practised counting to 10 to play the game.
Music
We played the glocks again this week in the green room. We are becoming much more confident!
We absolutely loved our morning in Year 2 this week! Mrs Sheen was so impressed by everyone! Please remember to bring your favourite book into school next Wednesday for the next transition morning.
Sumdog challenges
Phonics - ow and ou words
Maths - finding a half
Count on and back in 2s, 5s and 10s. Start on different numbers. Talk about whether the numbers are getting bigger or smaller.
Practise quickly recalling number facts, for example 6 is 0+6,1+5,2+4,3+3,4+2,5+1,0+6. practise for other numbers
See if your child can tell the time on an analogue clock. Look at o'clock and half past.

Year 4
Home Practice 1st July 2022
Welcome to this week’s blog. Here’s what we have been learning this week ….
In English, we started our new novel – Bill’s New Frock by Anne Fine. We looked at the front cover and made predictions about the story. Then we read the blurb on the back and wrote a paragraph to explain whether our prediction had changed and reasons why.
In Maths, we learnt how to compare and order decimal numbers. In addition, we revised rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Following this, we rounded decimals to the nearest whole number.
In French, we described a monster together, remembering to put the colour adjectives after the nouns and make them agree. Then we read a story about a monster. Next week, we will design our own monster and describe it.
During our PSHE lesson we discussed whose responsibility it is to protect the world around us. We then reminded ourselves of simple changes we can all make to help reduce plastic pollution. We then enjoyed making a clips video on the ipads to explain what we have learnt and suggest changes that people can make to help the environment and reduce plastic pollution.
In Computing, we made our final animations. We thoroughly enjoyed making these and are really proud of our end results. Over the past few weeks, we have learnt a lot about making an animation, and now understand that the ipad and background need to be secure, and the characters should only move a small amount each time.
In Geography, we started to write a double page spread about climate change. We wrote the title, a definition of climate change and the impact of climate change on the world, such as: drought, more frequent and powerful storms, and rising sea levels which can lead to flooding. We will be adding more information to our work next week.
We also enjoyed wild weaving outside. We found twigs of a similar size and bound the ends together to make a rectangular shape. We then wrapped wool or string around it to make a loom. Following this, we threaded natural materials into the loom – these looked beautiful, well done Year 4.
Counting
This week, please practise counting in 25’s – draw a line and some marks on it like I do in class. You could write the numbers down as you count up. When you count down, cover the numbers up, say the number, then reveal what you have got written down to check you’ve said the correct number.
Count in 25’s
For example, start at 0 and count up to 275 and back again
0 25 50 etc 275 250 225 etc
For example, start at 1125 and down up to 925 and back again
1125 1100 1075 etc 925 950 975 etc
Spellings
The spellings this week all have the prefix ‘in’ or ‘ir’. A prefix is a group of letters that are added to the beginning of a word and change the meaning or make a new word. ‘In’ and ‘ir’ both mean not. Therefore, when they are added to the beginning of a word, they form words with the opposite meaning. For example inaccurate means not accurate and irrelevant means not relevant. The spellings are on Sumdog this week.
inaccurate incomplete inactive incorrect inconvenient
inexpensive inefficient inedible irregular irresponsible
irrelevant irreversible irresistible irrational irreplaceable
Sumdog challenges
You have been set 3 challenges on Sumdog:
- A spelling challenge based on the spellings above
- A maths challenge based on the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables
- A maths challenge – rounding to the nearest whole number, 10, 100 and 1000
Please make sure you log on and have a go!
Year 6 Blog - Friday 1st July 2022
Date: 1st Jul 2022 @ 3:53pm
Welcome to another Year 6 blog.
This week in Year 6:
- ‘Mini Coaching’ has continued during lunch times. The Year 2s have really enjoyed taking part on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- We have continued with rehearsals and have now, with everyone learning their lines, started to include dance routines and actions.
- In Maths, we have been learning how to become quicker with our long division and how to use all four quadrants to translate shapes across an axis.
- In English, we have learnt that our main character (Alfie) has been found hiding and tried to run from the police. We then wrote an action scene of how this happened.
- In Geography, we learnt about the physical geography of Brazil with groups researching and presenting information about the Amazon Basin, the Pantanal, and the Brazilian Highlands.
- In Music, we used the time to perfect the 14 songs of the Joseph production, with a few of us working with Mrs Winter on the solos.
- In PSHE, we discussed what we are looking forward to and what might worry us about the transition to high school. We realised that a lot of our worries are the same by quite a lot of people.
- In Science, we looked at some real fossils and talked about what we could tell from them and what we could not. Then we watched a clip from an Attenborough programme about the Tiktaalik and how animals evolved from living in water to living on land. Next, we explored the different stages of human evolution from 5 million years ago to the present day and the advantages that each change brought. We discussed about how humans might continue to evolve in the future.
- On Wednesday, some of our Year 6s led Mass for the Feast of St Peter and St Paul.
- Finally, Year 6 completed their bike checks. Do not forget to bring your bikes in for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
- French – please keep learning the song Je suis un enfant de paix on Youtube.
Date: 1st Jul 2022 @ 3:37pm
This week we have been making our own hot air balloon adventure stories. The children have loved making up their own stories to share with the rest of the class.
In Maths, we have been making our teen numbers using 10 and some more in lots of different ways.
During our afternoons, we have been exploring different types of transport and making our own vehicles. We also used junk model materials to make our own boats, we thought about the best material that would be waterproof and we tested them out to see which would sink and which would float.
