French
Bonjour! Today we are going to learn how to say 'a' for singular nouns and 'some' for plural nouns. For example, in English, this would be: A rabbit = 1 rabbit. Some rabbits = more than one rabbit.
Then we’ll do 'the' for singular and plural nouns, using the same animal vocabulary as we learnt last week. Eg the horse= 1 horse. The horses = more than one. The words you’ll learn today are called articles and they change in French depending on whether the noun is masculine or feminine, singular or plural.
Article |
Masculine singular |
Feminine singular |
Plural (masculine and feminine are the same) |
A
|
Un (un) |
Une (oon) |
Des (day) = some |
The
|
Le (luh) |
La (la) |
Les (lay) |

Download lesson 17 with audio.
Work through the Powerpoint, clicking on whether you think it is un or une or des; le or la or les. The lady will say Tant pis! Never mind! if you make a mistake.
Once you’ve worked through, write the date in French in your book – mardi deux mars and the learning objective Can I translate un, une, des, le ,la, les into English?
Using slide 20, copy the French and translate it into English. Once you’ve tried the first 5, check your answers before moving on to slide 21. Check your answers again and correct them if you’ve made a mistake. If you like, there are 5 more on slide 22!
I hope you understand. We will go back over this in school if you’re a bit unsure.
Here’s an animal song to finish.

Merci beaucoup. A la semaine prochaine. See you next week!
Reminders
Please keep sending me your work on Seesaw – I am so proud of you for the work I have seen so far. Today I would like you to send me a photo of your writing.

Year 2 Home Learning - 4th March 2021
Date: 3rd Mar 2021 @ 2:20pm
Thursday 4th March 2021
Well done year 2 for all your fantastic learning so far this week. Remember tomorrow is Fabulous Friday so continue working really hard today. Can you write down 5 things you have enjoyed about home learning and 5 things you are excited about when you come back to school next week?
Today is World Book Day 2021. There are lots of brilliant ways you can enjoy books and there are lots of different ways you could spend time reading today. Read at home with your family, read in your favourite nook, read in an unusual location, share a story with your pet, read a book dressed as your favourite character, and more! We hope you have a lovely World Book Day 2021 and we would love to see what you get up to on Seesaw. Please send us a picture of your outfit along with a short note telling us all about your favourite book. Why do you enjoy that particular book?
Here is Mr Ingram’s favourite book:
Here is Miss Bennison’s favourite book:
We will explain the structure on here each day but please refer to the additional uploaded documents for each specific lesson guidance and resources.
Reading
It is ESSENTIAL that children continue to read every single day. This should be for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Reading challenge – VOCABULARY. Can you find 5 words that you would like to find more information about? Where could you use those words again? could you put them into your writing today?
Resources for questioning your child while they are reading - VIPERS
Maths
This week in Maths we are learning about lines of symmetry.
Starter – Writing numbers on a number line.
You will need a ruler (or something you can draw a line with), number line or hundred square and a pencil.
I would like you to draw a number line and place these numbers on it correctly. I will put 2 on to start you off.
Now answer these questions:
- How did you sort the numbers?
- How did you know which number came next?
- Which is the biggest number? How do you know?
- Tell an adult about the tens and ones in the numbers?
This week our lessons focus on lines of symmetry and symmetry of shapes.
What is Symmetry?
When we think about symmetry the most important thing is that on either side of the line the shape looks the same as the other. They are the same. If the shape does not look the same on each side it does not show symmetry.
For your lesson today please have a go at the worksheet attached.
Worksheet 1 – Drawing lines of symmetry on shapes.
Worksheet 2 – Drawing shapes using squares.

Good morning Year 4. Welcome to World Book Day 2021! Please upload a photo of yourself in your outfit to Seesaw. In addition, write a message explaining why your favourite book is your favourite. There is a £10 book voucher for the best message received – don’t worry if you don’t dress up, you can still enter the competition if you send in a message! You can also click on the link here. This will take you to a website where you can use a map to find out where your favourite book is set.
Have a fun Thursday Year 4.
Reading
Please read out loud to someone at home for 20 minutes. Make sure you discuss what has happened in the chapter / story so far.
Take notice of punctuation today, for example, full stops, commas, exclamation marks, question marks, inverted commas (speech marks) and apostrophes. Can you work out why the author has used them? Would the book make sense without this punctuation?
Spelling
These are your new spellings which will be tested on Tuesday 9th March 2021. They are all from the Year 3 / 4 Spelling list – a list of words which children should be able to read and spell by the time they leave Year 4. There are some quite tricky words, so please practise them carefully.
The words are:
mention probably therefore build disappear guide
natural recent though although busy business
Write the long date Thursday 4th March 2021
Practise the spellings by splitting them up into chunks in different colours.
Eg probably business though
A spelling challenge has also been set on Sumdog.
English
Today, please re-read or listen again to Chapter 9 of Kensuke’s Kingdom. A copy of the book is attached to the blog or you can listen to Chapter 9 by clicking here.
Open the document called ‘Chapter 9 activity’ which is attached to the blog. All the instructions for the tasks are explained in this document.
Please share your work on Seesaw
Times tables
A times tables challenge has been set on Sumdog. This is to consolidate and practise your 11 and 12 times tables.
Children in school will be tested on their tables today, therefore, please ask someone at home to test you on your individual target or a mixture of x4 and x8 if you are on ‘free’ tables. Ask them to call out your tables in a mixed-up order. This is how I do it in school – ask the question twice, count to 8, then ask the next question.
Write the short date 04.03.21
Write the title Times tables test
Please share your ‘test’ on Seesaw.
Counting
Count in 100’s from 22 to 1222 and back again. Count in 100’s from 537 to 1737 and back again. Think about what you found tricky? Write the numbers down as you say them – what patterns do you notice?
Please count in tens from 2.2 to 122.2 and back again – can you go any further? (eg 2.2 12.2 22.2 32.2 etc) Write the numbers down as you say them - do you notice any patterns?
Now count in tens from 53.7 to 173.7 and back again – can you go any further? (eg 53.7 63.7 73.7 83.7 etc) Write the numbers down as you say them – what do you notice now?
What is the relationship between 100 and 10? Can you see any patterns in the numbers you have written down?
Maths
Click here to play Daily 10.
Click on play game. Choose Level 3 and Division. Depending on how confident you feel, choose a table from the ‘Up to 12’ or ‘Mixed tables’ column. Choose your time interval and have a go. Once you have played once, repeat the game and see if you can improve on your previous score.
Yesterday, we practised sharing and how to represent this as a written calculation. Today we will learn about grouping, which is another way to divide.
Remember we will be learning more about mental and written division (chunking) next week. In preparation for this, it is important that you are confident with the basics of grouping and sharing. It is also CRUCIAL that you learn your tables (and division facts) off by heart so that you are able to use them accurately and at speed, therefore please take 10 minutes each day to practise your tables / division facts. If you do this, you will be amazed at how your confidence will grow in a short space of time.
Write the short date 04.03.21
Write the learning objective Can I practise grouping?
Watch today’s teaching video here.
Open the worksheet attached to the blog called ‘Grouping’.
Complete the worksheet / answer the questions in your Home Learning Book.
Draw a numberline to 24. How many different ways can you get to 24 in equal jumps? Make sure you write down all the possibilities in your book.
Science
Today we are going to start a topic on Teeth and digestion.
Before we start the lesson, click on the link here.
Plus is a good thing about it; minus is a bad thing and interesting is just an interesting thought you have about the subject of toothbrushes.
Write the long date Thursday 4th March 2021
Write the learning objective Can I identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions?
Download the powerpoint called ‘Teeth’ attached to the blog and work through it. There is a ‘Teeth map template’ attached to the blog which will help you when you come to slide 7 and the labeling activity below.
Label the teeth using a key (use one colour for incisors, another for canines and a third colour for molars. Put a key at the side to say which is which.) and explain what their jobs are underneath. Stick this in your book.
It is really important to look after your teeth because once you have your adult teeth, there are no more! Make a poster to explain 3 important ways we can keep our teeth healthy. Use slide 8, 9 and 10 to help. You might like to find out what kinds of foods are not good for our teeth and include this information too.
Remember to: write a big, bold cololurful title; use a balance of eye-catching pictures and writing; write clearly so that your writing can be read from a distance; use correct spelling and punctuation.
Well done – remember to brush your teeth really well tonight!
Sumdog challenges
You have been set 3 challenges on Sumdog:
- A maths times table challenge (based on the 11 and 12 times tables)
- A maths challenge all about whole numbers upto 10 000
- A spelling challenge based on the new Year 3 /4 spellings
Please make sure you log on and have a go! It is important that you practise these skills as they are invaluable in helping you to learn your number facts and multiplication and division facts. In addition, they will enable you to calculate accurately and at speed when working mentally.
A new spelling challenge will start tomorrow.
Well done for finishing today’s work. Have a lovely evening and stay safe.

Here are your final tasks:
Reading
Read for 30 minutes. Keep building up that speed and stamina.
Reading activity for today:
- Draw a cartoon strip of the main events from the book.
English (split into three parts: Handwriting, Spellings and Writing)
Handwriting
The handwriting poems this week are based on seasons through the year. This week focus on forming each letter correctly, which we have done before but this is something we will do in detail next week when you are all back so practising this is a going to help.
The Visitor
Cold fingers clawed the face of earth,
Bold winter strutted round,
Bare branches trembled in the wind,
Their leaves mulching the ground.
Dancing snowflakes chuckled in the
Prancing north-east breeze,
Algid river stood still, crippled,
Aged women coughed and wheezed.
Sheep shivered in the snow-bound wasteland,
Steep and icy were the paths.
In the houses, people huddled,
Skin slowly cooking round the hearths.
Then it happened, one clear morning,
When the bite of cold was sore,
That there came a gently knocking
At the weatherman’s cottage door.
He got up and shambled out to
See, his heart began to sing,
By the door, a young girl smiling,
‘Hi,’ she said. ‘My name is Spring.’
Spellings
The spellings for this week, long ‘y’ sound
- Make a pyramid with each word to really focus on every letter.
- e.g.
c
cy
cyc
cycl
cycli
cyclin
cycling
Writing task
Can I create my own mini story called, The Library Adventure?
Today is World Book Day where we can all dress up and celebrate some of the best loved characters. How many can you mention in just one minute?
Any of those your favourites?
If you had to choose one, who would it be?
This character you have chosen could be the start of a new story.
Look at the Pobble picture called, The Greatest Library, at the bottom of the blog.
Here is a library, but not just any old library, the books in this library are the most interesting as once opened, they come alive, creating new stories to be opened and read and experienced.
Think what your favourite types of books are. If you could choose one of your books to come alive, which one would it be and why?
If you could be a character in a book, who would you like to be?
Here is a story starter for you to continue:
The books had minds of their own…
This was no ordinary library.
Books about knights and castles would gallop all over the library, bravely and boldly ordering the other books around. The books about thieves would sneak around, lurking behind bookshelves in the shadows. Books about wild animals would occasionally roar and bite other books. The ones containing stories set in the winter would often shiver, covering their neighbours with snow and frost.
Lucy loved this place like no other. Reading was the most exciting thing in the world here: everything she read seemed to come alive out of the pages…
Your task is to create a story following any of these prompts:
- You or any other character can be the one in the ‘greatest library’ about to read a book
- Introduction = The book comes alive with you (or the character) being sucked into that book’s story.
- Main = The adventure begins
- Ending = This part is completely up to you but it could be:
- main character is now stuck in the book forever
- main character saves the day
- main character solves a quest and returns home
- main character decides to stay in this world forever
Maths – Division Week
- Warm up your brain: Counting forward and back in steps of 250 and 750
7 000 , 15 000 , 5 400 , 64 000 , 97 200
- Main lesson. The objective for today is:
- Can I follow the success criteria of long division?
- Write out the times tables of the divisor
- Look at the first two digits and take the largest chunk possible
- Take that away from the answer
- Continue taking large chunks in multiples of 10 or 100
- Make sure you finish at zero
- Add up the chunks to find the answer
- Can I follow the success criteria of long division?
There is a Seesaw video for today’s lesson which will help in answering ‘Long Division’ sheet.
- Arithmetic 19 – 36. See the Arithmetic video for guidance on some of the questions.
History
Can I illustrate and label Pakal the Great?
Follow this link to the BBC website to find information on Pakal the Great, who reigned as King for 68 years.
- Using any of the illustrations from the website, draw Pakal the Great in your book (think middle of the page so you can label him).
- Label him with facts that you have learnt. These questions may help
- Where did he live?
- How long did he rule for?
- When did he die?
- What did he accomplish?
- What did Ruz, the Mexican archaeologist, find in the sarcophagus?
- Any interesting facts?
- Send it to me via Seesaw
Fairtrade
Watch the video sent through Seesaw which explains the Climate Crisis PowerPoint at the bottom of the blog and the task to complete.
Your task:
You are in charge of your own cocoa farm. Your farm is about to be struck by one of the climate challenges from the PowerPoint. Try to answer the following questions:
- What is your challenge?
- How will this challenge affect your farm?
- Will this challenge affect your basic needs?
(You can use a computer to conduct further research if you prefer)
Sumdog – Three challenges
-
- Division of 2/3 digit numbers (200 target)
- Fluency with division facts (200 target)
- Spellings ‘long /y/ sound’ (45 target)
Excellent work Year 6. Congratulations. Make sure you celebrate in some way for all the effort you have put in.

As you know, it is Lent at the moment. I hope you are doing well with your Lenten Promise.
As well as making Lenten Promises, Lent gives us the chance to think about how we are living our daily lives. During Lent it is good to think about the needs of other people. Jesus explains this in his teaching called ‘The Beatitudes.’
I have attached The Beatitudes to this blog.
Write the long date: Wednesday 3rd March 2021
Write the title: Can I describe ways we can think about others during Lent?
Please read The Beatitudes and then write your own list which will help you to think about the needs of others during Lent.
You could start each line with:
You will be blessed when…
Here are some words from The Beatitudes which you might want to use:
Generous, share, friends, comfort, treat others, kindness, patience, respect, forgive.
You can also draw some pictures to show ways we can think about the needs of others.
Reminders
Please keep sending me your work on Seesaw – I am so proud of you for the work I have seen so far. Today I would like you to send me a photo of your maths and a video of yourself reading your rover story.

Maths
This week in Maths we are learning about lines of symmetry.
Starter – Writing numbers on a number line.
You will need a ruler (or something you can draw a line with), number line or hundred square and a pencil.
I would like you to draw a number line and place these numbers on it correctly.
Now answer these questions:
- How did you sort the numbers?
- How did you know which number came next?
- Tell an adult about the tens and ones in the numbers?
This week our lessons focus on lines of symmetry and symmetry of shapes.
What is Symmetry?
When we think about symmetry the most important thing is that on either side of the line the shape looks the same as the other. They are the same. If the shape does not look the same on each side it does not show symmetry.
For your lesson today please have a go at the worksheet attached.
You will need a pencil, scissors, glue and crayons for this activity.
Worksheet 1 – Cut out homes and select the correct half to make a full house.
Worksheet 2 – Use the squares to help you colour in the same pattern on the other side of the symmetry line.
We have uploaded an additional document named 'CHALLENGE'. This is only intended as extension work to challenge and push your learning. You are not required to complete this sheet.
English
Today, we are going to start our new book which follows on from The Day the Crayons Quit.
Take a look at the front cover:
What do you think the story might be about?
How can you tell from the pictures?
What information does the title of the story give you?
How did the crayons get home? Do they want to come home?
Read and enjoy The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers. You can view the story on PowerPoint attached to the end of this post or you can use the following link to listen to the story.
Please read up to ‘Glow in the Dark Crayon’.
Please see the attached Word document for more details on today’s lesson.

Please see the spellings below, which we would like you to learn this week. Children in school will be given a spelling quiz on Friday 5th March. These spelling can be practiced on Sumdog by selecting the ‘Spelling Quiz’ challenge.
bare/bear |
blue/blew |
here/hear |
there/their/they're |
quiet/quite |
night/knight |
to/too/two |
see/sea |
be/bee |
sun/son |
Re-cap from yesterday
Can you read the story and choose from the homophones their, they’re or there to fill in the blanks?
Once upon a time ____ were two twin witches. ____ faces looked the same, _____ clothes were very similar, and _____ voices sounded exactly alike. _____ was no telling which witch was which. On _____ first day at magic school, _____ teacher said, “_____ like two peas in a pod! I will never know which witch is which!”
That night, the twins cast a magic spell. “_____ not going to mix us up now!” the twins said to each other. The next day the teacher couldn’t believe it. _____ they were, one with pink hair and one with blue hair! “_____ very clever witches,” the teacher told _____ parents.
To, too or two
Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelt differently and have different meanings. To, too and two are homophones that often confuse people.
To is used to show motion, eg "I’m going to the shop."
Too means ‘also’ or ‘extremely’, eg "I would like to come too but I'm too tired."
Two means the number 2, eg "Let’s buy two apples."

Year 6 Home Learning - Wednesday 3rd March 2021
Date: 2nd Mar 2021 @ 2:41pm
Wednesday 3rd March 2021
Good morning Year 6. Welcome to our last remote Wednesday. Half way through the week is always good to check in on how you are organising yourself this week. Ask yourselves these questions today:
- Have you been reading every day?
- Have you started or even finished any Sumdog challenge?
- Are you going to tick everything off by Thursday or spread it out to Friday?
(Knowing how well you have been doing enables you to plan out the rest of the week)
Do not forget that Reading, English, Maths, French, Music and RE are on the blog today so spreads these activities out or do what you can.
REMINDER – WORLD BOOK DAY 2021
Tomorrow is World Book day where you can dress up at home in one of your favourite characters. Whether you dress up or not, please send in a picture of you holding your favourite book with a message of why it is your favourite. I will be doing the same and I will send my picture to you in the morning.
Here are today’s tasks:
Reading
Read for 30 minutes. Keep building up that speed and stamina.
Reading activity for today:
- Draw a picture of your favourite part of the book. Write what is happening in the picture and why you chose this.
English (split into three parts: Handwriting, Spellings and Writing)
Handwriting
The handwriting poems this week are based on seasons through the year. This week focus on forming each letter correctly, which we have done before but this is something we will do in detail next week when you are all back so practising this is a going to help.
Chips
Out of the paper bag
Comes the hot breath of the chips
And I shall blow on them
To stop them burning my lips.
Before I leave the counter
The woman shakes
Raindrops of vinegar on them
And salty snowflakes.
Outside, the frosty pavements
Are slippery as a slide
But the chips and I
Are warm inside.
Spellings
The spellings for this week, long ‘y’ sound
- Today, create another mini story with the spellings words.
- e.g. There was once a cycling hyena who absolutely loved to multiply numbers. He would identify figures in the street and rhyme whilst doing it. One day, the hyena qualified for the Cyclone Cup, a prestigious award once occupied by a python.
Writing task
Can I use a variety of nouns, verbs and adjectives to describe an evil character’s appearance and actions?
Read pages 44 – 50, which are on one of the videos I have sent through Seesaw.
Watch the main video sent through on Seesaw which explains how to complete today’s objective.
The example of descriptions for an evil character are attached at the bottom of the blog.
Also, the picture I used to describe my evil character is at the bottom of the blog under 'Wanderer picture for introducing evil character'.
Maths – Division Week

Times tables
A times tables challenge has been set on Sumdog. This is to consolidate and practise your 11 and 12 times tables.
Please practise your own tables target using Hit the button. If you are on ‘free’ tables, please practise a times table or division fact which you know you find tricky. If you are in school this week, you will be tested on your individual target on Thursday 4th March 2021 – if you are on ‘free’ tables, you will be tested on a mixture of 4 and 8 times tables.
Counting
Count in 100’s from 750 to 2150 and back again. Count in 100’s from 108 to 1508 and back again. Think about what you found tricky? Write the numbers down as you say them – what patterns do you notice?
Please count in 1000’s from 0 to 10 000 and back again – can you go any further? Write the numbers down as you say them - do you notice any patterns?
Now count in 1000’s from 500 to 9500 and back again – can you go any further? Write the numbers down as you say them – what do you notice now?
What is the relationship between 100 and 1000? Can you see any patterns in the numbers you have written down?
Maths
Click here to play Daily 10.
Click on play game. Choose Level 3 and Division. Depending on how confident you feel, choose a table from the ‘Up to 12’ or ‘Mixed tables’ column. Choose your time interval and have a go. Once you have played once, repeat the game and see if you can improve on your previous score.
When we all return to school next week we will be learning more about mental and written division (chunking). In preparation for this, it is important that you are confident with the basics of grouping and sharing. Therefore, today and tomorrow we will be recapping some of these basics. It is CRUCIAL that you learn your tables (and division facts) off by heart so that you are able to use them accurately and at speed. Please take 10 minutes each day to practise your tables / division facts - this could be your tables target, tables you should know, or those you find tricky. If you do this, you will be amazed at how your confidence will grow in a short space of time.
Write the short date 03.03.21
Write the learning objective Can I practise sharing?
Watch today’s teaching video here.
Open the worksheet attached to the blog called ‘Sharing’.
Complete the worksheet / answer the questions in your Home Learning Book.

Now have a go at 48 ÷ 2 and 48 ÷ 4.
French
Please write the date in French: mardi deux mars and the learning objective:
Can I describe Matisse’s pictures using shape and colour words?
Today we are going to look at some of Matisse’s art works and use the shape language we’ve learnt over the last few weeks to describe them.
Download the PowerPoint attached to the blog called ‘Describing Matisse’. It asks ‘Qu’est-ce qu’il y a dans le tableau?’ What’s in the picture? Work your way through listening to the audio and repeating the sentences. Can you say some of your own descriptive sentences?
When you reach slide 9, write these sentences into your book. Then look at slide 8 again and write the number of any pictures that the sentence applies to.
Check your answers using slide 10.
Here’s a song to finish. How many words that you recognise can you hear? You could slow down the playback speed to make it easier.

Maths
Click here to play Fruit splat compare equations – this is the game that you played yesterday.
You will be given an equation eg 4 x 3 ___ 2 + 2
Work out both sides of the equation. In the example above 4 x 3 = 12 and 2 + 2 = 4.
Decide whether the calculations are = (equal), the first calculation is > (greater than) the second; or the first calculation is < (less than) the second.
Click on the correct symbol. In the example above, you would click on the greater than symbols, because 12 is > 4.
Today, try Level Two - you can choose an untimed or timed game.
Today, we are going to practise our mental maths strategies and complete an arithmetic test.
Make sure you have everything you need before you start:
- A pencil and a ruler

- A 20 minute timer
- The arithmetic answers (to check your answers afterwards. These are attached to the blog)
Please make sure that you make jottings / show your working out – this is important as it helps to find any errors (if you make them!). Try and complete the test independently and CHECK EACH OF YOUR ANSWERS CAREFULLY before you look at the answer sheet. Remember, it doesn’t matter if you get an answer wrong, the most important thing is to find your mistake.
Before you start, please watch the two videos on Seesaw which will explain a couple of strategies. These will be uploaded on Tuesday morning.
Good luck!
Please post your work on Seesaw so that I can see how you got on!
RE
Please open the document called ‘RE Our Father’ which is attached to the blog. All the information for today’s RE lesson is explained in this document.

Handwriting
Please watch the video which will be on Seesaw in the morning.
Writing:
Today you are going to publish your rover story. I will tell you how we will do it in school, but you might choose to do something different like type it up on the computer or write it on lined paper or a new page in your book.
First:
Check that every sentence starts with a capital letter.
Check that every name starts with a capital letter (planet names, rover names, people’s names).
Check AT LEAST 5 spellings using your yellow dictionary.
How we will be doing it in school:
We will do all the writing in the morning, and illustrate, decorate and colour in the afternoon.
Get 3 pieces of plain A4 paper and fold them in half so they open like a book.
Put them inside each other to create a book, you could staple along the fold to keep them together.
Write the title of your story on the front page.
Carefully copy one paragraph from your story onto each page, you will have some spare pages to draw pictures on.
Please bring these into school next week so we can all show each other.
Times tables
Write the short date: 02.03.21
Write the title: Times Tables Test
Write the numbers 1-11 down your page.
Ask somebody to call out the following questions.
In school I always read the question out, count to five, read it out again and then count to three before moving on to the next question.
The bonus question is: 97 x 10.
If you get any wrong, practise a bit more and then try again.
- 12 ÷ 3 =
- 24 ÷ 3 =
- 6 ÷ 3 =
- 15 ÷ 3 =
- 30 ÷ 3 =
- 9 ÷ 3 =
- 18 ÷ 3 =
- 3 ÷ 3 =
- 21 ÷ 3 =
- 27 ÷ 3 =
Here are the answers:
- 12 ÷ 3 = 4
- 24 ÷ 3 = 8
- 6 ÷ 3 = 2
- 15 ÷ 3 =5
- 30 ÷ 3 = 10
- 9 ÷ 3 = 3
- 18 ÷ 3 = 6
- 3 ÷ 3 = 1
- 21 ÷ 3 = 7
- 27 ÷ 3 = 9
Sumdog
Go on Sumdog and complete the following challenges:
Number Challenge: 1st March – 7th March
Times Tables Challenge: 1st March – 7th March
Counting
Count out loud in 4s from 0 to 48:
Whilst doing star jumps
Whilst jogging on the spot
Whilst doing squats
Number Facts
Write down or tell somebody the totals of pairs of doubles up to 10 + 10.
Like this:
1 + 1 = 2
2 + 2 = 4
Maths
Today you are going to answer some arithmetic questions.
There will be some videos available on Seesaw in the morning which will remind you of the strategies we use for some of the questions.
After watching the videos, set a timer for 20 minutes and complete the questions.
After 20 minutes, check your answers yourself and then use the answer sheet to check.
Science
Next Tuesday in school we are going to be taking part in a live online Science lesson called Future Farming Robots.
The lesson will be run by Senior lecturer Paula and engineering researcher Megan from Harper Adams University.
We will get chance to look at their robotics lab to look at how robots can solve some of farming’s biggest challenges including - How can we improve soil health? How can we make growing crops more efficient? How can we farm areas that weren’t suitable for growing crops before?
At the end of the lesson, Paula and Megan will be answering questions sent in by children. So we are going to come up with some questions and I will send them in with the hope that we will have some of them answered.
Write the long date: Tuesday 2nd March 2021
Write the title: Can I suggest questions about the future of farming?
I would like you to write at least 3 questions (more if you want) and send them to me on Seesaw.
They might be about:
Paula and Megan
Robots
Soil
Farming
Tractors
Future technology
Jobs that farming robots might need to do
Art
Illustrate your rover story with pictures, patterns, borders and decorations.
Use colour to make it look exciting.
If you have typed your story, you could either print it and illustrate it or add images from the internet.
Reminders
Please keep sending me your work on Seesaw – I am so proud of you for the work I have seen so far. Today I would like you to send me a photo of your science questions.
Don’t forget to go on Sumdog.
Have a super day J I am so proud of each and every one of you!
Year 2 Home Learning - 2nd March 2021
Date: 1st Mar 2021 @ 2:42pm
Tuesday 2nd March 2021
Well done year 2 – another brilliant day of learning yesterday. Try and think of 3 things that you are thankful for today.
We really don’t have long now until we will all be together again, so keep working hard this week. It is really important to keep persevering and completing as much work as you can.
This week you will still have some Fairtrade activities and these will be posted at the bottom of the blog.
We will explain the structure on here each day but please refer to the additional uploaded documents for each specific lesson guidance and resources.
Reading
It is ESSENTIAL that children continue to read every single day. This should be for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Reading challenge – VOCABULARY. Can you find 4 words from your book that are great words? If you have a dictionary or on a tablet search for ‘Word Hippo’ can you write what this word means or any other words which mean the same?
Resources for questioning your child while they are reading - VIPERS
Maths
This week in Maths we are learning about lines of symmetry.
Starter – Writing numbers on a number line.
You will need a ruler (or something you can draw a line with), number line or hundred square and a pencil.
I would like you to draw a number line and place these numbers on it correctly.
1 31 11 41 21 61 51 71
Now answer these questions:
- How did you sort the numbers?
- How did you know which number came next?
- What is the pattern showing for these numbers?
- Tell an adult about the tens and ones in the numbers?
This week our lessons focus on lines of symmetry and symmetry of shapes.
What is Symmetry?
When we think about symmetry the most important thing is that on either side of the line the shape looks the same as the other. They are the same. If the shape does not look the same on each side it does not show symmetry.
For your lesson today please click to watch the video link and complete the attached worksheet.
We have uploaded an additional document named 'CHALLENGE'. This is only intended as extension work to challenge and push your learning. You are not required to complete this sheet.
English
What is a persuasive writing?
Where might we see persuasive writing?
Here is a reminder of the letter we received in school yesterday:
Dear Mr Ingram and Miss Bennison,
It’s me, Glue Stick. I am writing to tell you that I have decided to quit my job as your class Glue Stick. First of all, I would like to say that I love being the class glue stick. It’s great to see all the children using me to stick in their precious work. Also, I love it when I am used in Art. Art is my favourite subject. I wish to congratulate Year 2 for a successful “glueing in career” so far, you are all doing an amazing job. However, some children in your class leave my lid off and I am DYING! I go all dry and horrible. Furthermore, there are some children who use too much of me. One child the other week used half of me on one piece of paper. Can you believe that? I need a break! Try to use me more sparingly and remember to put my lid on!
Your dry, horrible and soon-to-be ex-friend,
Glue Stick
Please see the attached Word document for more details on today’s lesson.
Phonics and Spelling
Phonics play have made their website free to use throughout January. Login -> select the resources tab -> select phase 6 phonics and have a play!

Today we will be focusing on the homophones their, they're and there
Please see the spellings below, which we would like you to learn this week. Children in school will be given a spelling quiz on Friday 5th March. These spelling can be practiced on Sumdog by selecting the ‘Spelling Quiz’ challenge.
bare/bear |
blue/blew |
here/hear |
there/their/they're |
quiet/quite |
night/knight |
to/too/two |
see/sea |
be/bee |
sun/son |
Start by trying to match the picture or description to the correct word.
Their, they're or there
Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelt differently and have different meanings. 'Their', 'they're' and 'there' are homophones that often confuse people.
Their means it belongs to them, e.g. "I ate their sweets."
They're is short for 'they are' e.g. "They are going to be cross."
There refers to a place, e.g. "I'm going to hide over there."
Although they sound the same they have entirely different meanings. They’re putting all their toys in the cupboard over there. In other words, there is a place. Their shows ownership. They’re is short for they are.
Please follow the link below for a short video and some interactive games - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zjpytrd/articles/zfhxxyc
Work through today’s PowerPoint presentation and have a go at the worksheet attached to the blog.
Music
Here is the link to your music lesson this week. https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/rhythms-6rtp6c
French
Here’s our favourite fruit song to remind us of the fruit words.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ03KjwiIVM
Now we’re going to learn how the French say the vowels – a,e,i,o,and u. Their alphabet contains the same letters as ours but they have different names for the letters. Listen to this vowel song a few times until you can say the vowels in French. They also count y as a vowel sometimes (but so do we – sky, try, fly. All words need a vowel in them but these words only have a y!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXPUmC51wGc
Now you can play a game of Battleships using fruit and your new vowel words. There is a sheet in the resources with the instructions on.
Amusez-vous bien! A la semaine prochaine. See you next week!
Fairtrade Activity
The choices that we make can affect the planet and the people that live on it in positive and negative ways. Make a choice that is positive for people and planet today!
Write a sentence and draw a picture explaining your choice.

Tuesday 2nd March 2021
Good morning Year 6. Welcome to Tuesday.
Well done to those who have started this week’s Sumdog challenges and posted some work through Seesaw. Remember, as always, do not hesitate to contact me about anything regarding learning. So many of you did yesterday as I am here to help during your final week of remote learning.
Here are today’s tasks:
Reading
Read for 30 minutes. Keep building up that speed and stamina.
Reading activity for today:
- How does/did the book make you feel? Explain.
English (split into three parts: Handwriting, Spellings and Writing)
Handwriting
The handwriting poems this week are based on seasons through the year. This week focus on forming each letter correctly, which we have done before but this is something we will do in detail next week when you are all back so practising this is a going to help.
Still Winter
Ambushing snowdrops,
Beheading buds,
Drowning daisies
In sudden floods,
Old Mr Winter
Won’t let go,
Arthritic fingers
Dipped in snow.
Grey mist clinging
Like old news,
Badger talking
One more snooze.
Blackbird singing
In freezing rain,
Screech Owl calling;
Night again.
Cold rat feasting
On the scrap-heap,
Frosty paw-prints,
Earth half-asleep.
All things hoping
Spring comes soon,
Snuggle under
Frosty moon.
Spellings

The New Vocabulary to Define sheet is attached to the bottom of this blog.
Maths – Division Week
- Warm up your brain: Counting forward and back in steps of 200 and 400
1 600, 4 700, 16 000, 145 000, 876 700
- Main lesson. The objective for today is:
- Can I use chunking to solve large division questions?
See the video on Seesaw which explain how we use the division chunking method to help you complete the Chunking Method sheet.
- Maths challenge Division with Digit Cards – See the Seesaw video for an explanation of the challenge with the attached sheet at the bottom of this blog.
Science
Today we are going to start a topic called Exercise, Health and the Circulatory system.
Download the Powerpoint and work through it. There is a choice of two tasks on the last slide.
Your poster can be done on a computer or in your book. There is a choice of cartoon strip templates in the resources.
Enjoy!
Fairtrade
This lesson focuses on the difference between wants and needs, and to identify what all humans need to live a decent life.
Task 1:
Think of these questions and note down any of your responses:
- What do you need to happy and healthy?
- Of those things, what are the most important?
- Of those things, what are the least important?
There is a difference to wants and needs. A need is something a person needs to survive and a want is something that is nice to have.
Task 2:
Use the ’12 Wants and Needs cards’ at the bottom of the blog to divide into two categories: needs and wants.
From your two lists, are there some that we can live without?
Task 3:
Select the needs cards that you might need to pay for e.g. healthy food, medicine.
Not all people in the world have enough money to meet their basic needs. Without enough money, it can be difficult to lead a healthy and happy life. Many of the farmers who grow cocoa for our chocolate are not paid enough money to meet their basic needs, even though they work hard.
Read Theresa’s story, on the PowerPoint, which shows how Fairtrade can help farmers and workers to meet their basic needs.
Then think about what can be done to ensure that all farmers and workers get their basic needs met.
Sumdog – Three challenges
-
- Division of 2/3 digit numbers (200 target)
- Fluency with division facts (200 target)
- Spellings ‘long /y/ sound’ (45 target)
Well done. Another day completed!

Science – You are going to make a mouse and a pretend rocket and see how far you can make your mouse fly.
Watch this video to see how to do it.
https://learning.sciencemuseumgroup.org.uk/resources/rocket-mice/
For the ‘mouse’, cut out a semi-circle of paper and bend it round to make a cone shape and secure with sellotape.
Discussion
How far can you make him fly?
Does it go further if you have a bigger bottle?
Can you measure how far it flies using building bricks or toy cars or other items?
What is the science? (Adult explanation)
The bottle used as the rocket launcher is not really empty: there is air inside it. Air is elastic (squashy), and when you compress it, it pushes back and the pressure inside increases. In the activity, the sudden increase in air pressure inside the bottle pushes hard on the bottom of the rocket, sending it flying high into the air. There are also two other forces acting on the rocket: air resistance and gravity. Air resistance always pushes in the opposite direction to the rocket’s movement, and its strength depends on the rocket’s shape and its speed. Gravity always pulls downwards, slowing the rocket’s climb but speeding up its descent.

Year 2 Home Learning - 1st March 2021
Date: 28th Feb 2021 @ 2:24pm
Monday 1st March 2021
We hope you have all had a great weekend. We are very excited to have you back in school next week so remember to work really hard this week ready for when you return. Each day this week please try and post at least one piece of work onto SeeSaw – we really enjoy seeing what you have completed at home.
Reading challenge – making a prediction. Before you start a new book can you write down or tell an adult about what you think the story might be about. Use the clues from the front cover, any illustrations, the blurb and the title.
- How does the number 51 show it is the biggest number?
- Tell an adult about the tens and ones in the numbers?
This week our lessons focus on lines of symmetry and symmetry of shapes.
What is Symmetry?
When we think about symmetry the most important thing is that on either side of the line the shape looks the same as the other. They are the same. If the shape does not look the same on each side it does not show symmetry.
For your lesson today please click to watch the video link and complete the attached worksheet.
We have uploaded an additional document named 'CHALLENGE'. This is only intended as extension work to challenge and push your learning. You are not required to complete this sheet.
English
Myself and Miss Bennison walked into the classroom this morning and found a letter next to a glue stick. Take a look at the front of the letter.
Who is this for? How do you know?
Here is what the letter said:
Your dry, horrible and soon-to-be ex-friend,
Glue Stick

This week we will be focusing on homophones. Please follow this link which introduces you to the word homophones. There are also some interactive games underneath the video - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqhpk2p/articles/zc84cwx
Please see the spellings below, which we would like you to learn this week. Children in school will be given a spelling quiz on Friday 5th March. These spelling can be practiced on Sumdog by selecting the ‘Spelling Quiz’ challenge.

What are homophones?
Homophones are the words that sound the same but have different spellings and different meanings. This means that chances are high that the you will mix up some of the words at some point in your reading and writing.
Some homophones are pronounced the same way and spelled the same way but have different meanings (homonyms). For example:
rose (the flower) and rose (past tense of the verb to rise)
book (something we read) and book (to schedule something)
Some homophones are pronounced the same way but are spelled differently and have different meanings. For example:
wait (the verb) and weight (how heavy something is)
they're (they are) and their (belonging to them) and there (adverb of place)
What happens if you use homophones wrong? You could end up having sentences that don’t make any sense.
Please see today’s video on Seesaw and have a go at the worksheet attached. See if you can match the each question to the correct homophone.
Science
Can I identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard?
Resources:
A selection of materials for each group, including lengths of wood, metal, plastic and card. You could simply use any materials you can find around the house.
Has anyone ever been on a bridge like these?
Some bridges are only designed for people to cross and so they can be made out of different materials to bridges designed for cars and heavy vehicles. This bridge is a rope bridge.
The ones with the metal ropes are called suspension bridges and they are designed to move a bit. Do you know why? (So they don't break when the wind blows, or when traffic is heavy, etc.)
Some bridges, especially high ones, are built of solid material but are designed to bend and sway a bit. Why do you think this is?
Take a look at a selection of materials you have collected. Can you put them in order of rigidity? (from 'not at all bendy' to 'really bendy')
You are all now really good at doing investigations and thinking like scientists. Your challenge for today is to investigate the materials to see how bendy they are.
Tape down (or hold) your different materials onto a table edge so they lie horizontally secure a weight on the end of each strip. The weights will need to be the same. You will need to measure the bendiness of one strip of material, then remove the weight and attach it to the next strip.
How will you record the bendiness? You may want to attach the strips to the part of a table closest to a wall so you can attach paper to the wall (directly behind the horizontal strips) and draw the bend produced or you could simply observe how much it bends.
What have you discovered by doing your investigation?
Fairtrade Activity
Create a Fairtrade farm in a shoebox! What Fairtrade product is growing on your farm?
You will need:
- shoe box or a recycling box
- other recycling junk/materials
- crayons and pens
Sumdog Challenges

Write the short date in the margin underneath your story from last week: 01.03.21
Today you are going to finish your story all about the rover visiting a planet.
I want you to use your imagination to write about your first day on the planet.
I have attached an example of how you could write the next part of the story, you can use some of the ideas and good words or come up with your own.
Paragraph 1:
Write about the beautiful and amazing things you saw.
Paragraph 2:
Write about a problem or something dangerous that happened.
Make your writing amazing by:
Including a simile
Including an exclamation mark
Adding extra information in brackets
Writing a question at the end
Please send me a photo of your writing on Seesaw. I will be looking out for perfect spelling and exciting words.
Times tables
Tomorrow you are going to be tested on the division facts for the 3x tables.
I would like you to practise dividing by 3 using arrays.
An array is where you arrange things into columns and rows, we use them to help us with our times tables.
Click on the link to watch the video and read about arrays.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/znj7hyc/articles/zhgjpg8
I have attached a sheet with questions to practise dividing by 3. The sheet also has some examples of arrays.
Please create arrays for the first 5 questions by:
Drawing shapes in rows of 3.
Complete the rest of the sheet by either using your times tables or drawing arrays.

From 312 to 412.
Number Facts
Write out or tell somebody all the pairs of number which make:
- 8 e.g.2 + 6
- 5
- 7
Geography and Fairtrade Fortnight
I found a really interesting fact to share with you all:
If the Amazon rainforest were a country, it would be the ninth biggest in the world!
I have attached two posters which tell you why the rainforest is so important.
Read the information and then make a poster about the rainforest, focusing on why it is important.
You could include things about:
Animals
Oxygen
Water
Food
Medicine
Homes
Please keep these to bring into school next week 😊
Fairtrade Fortnight
Ask your parents to buy food – things like bananas, chocolate and avocados – that are grown in a sustainable way that’s safe for the rainforest environment, wildlife, and people. That goes for bathroom products too, like shampoo, conditioner and soap. If a product has the Rainforest Alliance or Fairtrade logo on it, you know that the farm, forest or company that provided it have created it sustainably!
Reminders
Please keep sending me your work on Seesaw – I am so proud of you for the work I have seen so far. Today I would like you to send me a photo of your writing.
Don’t forget to go on Sumdog. The new challenges start on Monday. It would be super if the whole class could complete them this week.
Have a wonderful day, smile lots J

Write the title Spelling test and complete the test underneath.
The words are:
education sensation creation celebration punctuation expectation
calculation hesitation imagination invitation location investigation
New spellings will be given tomorrow.
English
Today, please read or listen to Chapter 8 of Kensuke’s Kingdom. A copy of the book is attached to the blog or you can listen to Chapter 8 by clicking here.
Make sure you look up any words if you are unsure of their meaning. Try and work out the meaning of the word from the sentence before you look it up in a dictionary.
Open the document called ‘Events in Kensuke’s life’ which is attached to the blog. You may either print this sheet out or complete the writing straight into your Home Learning Book. All the instructions for today’s task are explained in this document.
Please share your work on Seesaw
Times tables
A times tables challenge has been set on Sumdog. This is to consolidate and practise your 11 and 12 times tables.
Counting
Count in 10’s from 45 to 185 and back again. Count in 10’s from 62 to 202 and back again. Think about what you found tricky? Write the numbers down as you say them – what patterns do you notice?
Please count in 0.1’s (tenths) from 6.5 to 8.3 and back again – can you go any further? Write the numbers down as you say them - do you notice any patterns?
Now count in 0.1’s (tenths) from 9.5 to 11.2 and back again – can you go any further? Write the numbers down as you say them – what do you notice now?
How many 0.1’s (tenths) are there between 6.5 and 7.5?
Maths
Click here to play Fruit splat compare equations
You will be given an equation eg 4 x 3 ___ 2 + 2
Work out both sides of the equation. In the example above 4 x 3 = 12 and 2 + 2 = 4.
Decide whether the calculations are = (equal), the first calculation is > (greater than) the second; or the first calculation is < (less than) the second.
Click on the correct symbol. In the example above, you would click on the greater than symbols, because 12 > 4.
Try Level One to begin with and see how you get on! You can choose an untimed or timed game.
Today, we are going to learn how to compare area.
Before you start, write down everything you can remember about area so far. Can you give a definition? What is a closed shape? Last week you learnt 2 different ways to calculate area, what were they?
Write the short date 01.03.21
Write the learning objective Can I compare area?
Watch today’s teaching video here.
Open the worksheet attached to the blog called ‘Comparing area’.
Complete the worksheet / answer the questions in your Home Learning Book.
Check your answers with the document ‘Comparing area answers’ attached to the blog. Look carefully at any questions you got wrong and try to understand why you made the error. Can you write a sentence to explain what you have learnt today?
RE
Please open the document called ‘RE Ways to say sorry’ which is attached to the blog. All the information for today’s RE lesson is explained in this document.
Geography
Last week we started our topic about Italy.
Before you start today’s lesson, see if you can name:
- the capital city of Italy and its approximate location
- the 4 countries which border Italy
- the 2 islands that are part of Italy
- the surrounding seas
Check your answers with your map from last week or have a look at map 1 and map 2.
Open the document called ‘Italy’s physical geography’ which is attached to the blog for today’s lesson.
Sumdog challenges
You have been set 3 challenges on Sumdog:
- A maths times table challenge (based on the 11 and 12 times tables)
- A maths challenge all about whole numbers upto 10 000
- A spelling challenge based on the –ation spellings which will be tested today.
Year 6 Home Learning - Monday 1st March 2021
Date: 26th Feb 2021 @ 12:42pm
Monday 1st March 2021
Good morning Year 6 and welcome to the start of the last week of home learning. The pupils in school, the teachers and I are super excited to see you next week so do what you can – you are so close to the end, keep going!
Here are the last Monday’s tasks:
Reading
Read for 30 minutes. Keep building up that speed and stamina.
Reading activity for today:
- Which character in your book are you most like and least like? Explain you answer.
English (split into three parts: Handwriting, Spellings and Writing)
Handwriting
The handwriting poems this week are based on seasons through the year. This week focus on forming each letter correctly, which we have done before but this is something we will do in detail next week when you are all back so practising this is going to help.
December Moon
The moon has come out too soon,
it’s still the middle of the afternoon
and the day shows no signs of darkness.
What is the moon doing,
sneaking into the sky when it’s light?
What is the moon playing at?
Couldn’t it sleep?
Has its alarm clock rung too soon?
Do we see the moon this early
in June or September?
Or does December bring a special moon,
a let’s-get-these-nights-over-soon moon,
a can’t-wait-for-Christmas-to-come moon?
Spellings
The spellings for this week, long ‘y’ sound
- The spelling sheet is attached at the bottom of this blog.
- Sumdog spelling challenge starts today.
Writing task
Can I write as Aladdin in present tense?
Read page 27 – 29. Stop at page 29 then watch the video sent on Seesaw which explains today’s task.
The BBC bitesize link mentioned in the video is here, Past vs Present tense
After completing the task for today, continue reading pages 30 – 36.
Maths – Division Week
Warm up your brain: Counting forward and back in steps of 40 and 60
540, 820, 2650, 7000, 14 650
- Main lesson. The objective for today is:
- Can I use mental strategies to solve division questions?
See the video sent on Seesaw which explains the activities for today’s Maths lesson and the main sheet is named, ‘Mental Division’
- Maths challenge Missing Numbers – explanation on the same video. The sheet is at the bottom of the blog.
PE
Can I solve the noughts and crosses challenge using different tactics?
For today’s task, read the Noughts and Crosses challenge , which explains how to set up a large noughts and crosses using paper, hoops or whatever you have at home. The video on the website doesn’t seem to be working so here is a link to their twitter post with the video on it, Youth Sport Trust - Noughts and Crosses. If that link does not work, here is another link to show you how this game can be played, PE at Home - Noughts and Crosses.
This is a game that should be played with another family member, if possible. Here are a few ideas to make it interesting:
- Race against each other (walking or running depending if you are inside or outside your house)
- Take turns (so it becomes fairer)
- Perform different movements when placing your item down:
- Crawling, sliding, Spider-Man moves, lunging, side-stepping, galloping, jumping, leaping, hopping, move around cones, etc
- Or when you arrive at the noughts and crosses layout, perform one of these moves:
- 5 push-ups, star jumps, burpees, lunges, running on the stop, jumping on the spot, spotty dogs, etc
Do not forget to keep yourself active. My favourite things at the movement are dancing and yoga.
Here is a great Yoga video to help aid you in being more flexible. Yoga for kids with Adriene.
Fairtrade
In today’s lesson, watch the clip, Change the World with Your Choices, which you may remember from Thursday’s task. The video will help to start thinking about the power of your choices
Use the ‘Choices and Consequences’ matching cards to lay them on a table and match up a choice with a consequence.
Then think about the following questions or even discuss them with someone in your house:
Who was affected by these choices?
What countries were impacted by these choices? Can you find them on a map?
Can you identify the choices that were about buying choices?
Can you identify the choices that were made after buying the product?
For an extra task, consider alternative choices and the negative consequences that may arise as a result.
- Look at the choices cards and pick an alternative choice that might have negative consequences e.g. Instead of choosing to recycle your rubbish you might throw it in a regular rubbish bin. Write these on the back of the choices cards.
- What are the negative consequences of these choices? Now write possible negative impact of these alternative choices on the back of the consequences cards.
Sumdog – Three challenges
-
- Division of 2/3 digit numbers (200 target)
- Fluency with division facts (200 target)
- Spellings ‘long /y/ sound’ (45 target)
Congratulations! The last remote Monday is now complete.
