Year 2 Home Practice 5th November 2021
Date: 5th Nov 2021 @ 1:11pm
We hope you all had a lovely half term. We have had a great first week back of learning. In English this week the children have read The Bear and the Piano and Five Little Fiends. They have done lots of writing, including character descriptions and sequencing the story. The children are working really hard to use their lead-ins in all their English lessons. In Maths, they have been learning all about measure. Our PSHE lesson was introducing this terms topic of ‘Managing our feelings’. In Computing, the children worked on coding and Sumdog. In French the children have made a wreath of hands as a symbol of peace and friendship. Keep up the great work everyone.

Year 2 Home Practice Friday 15th October 2021
Date: 15th Oct 2021 @ 4:15pm
Well done Year 2, we have had another great week of learning. The story Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown was fun to read and the children responded well during class discussion. They have done lots of writing, including a poem about Flat Stanley using interesting adjectives and a description of themselves, as if they had become flat! Some of their illustrations were fabulous! In Maths, they have been comparing numbers and rounding to the nearest ten. We will be moving on to measuring length and mass next week. Our PSHE lesson (circle time) was spent discussing friendship and kindness. In Computing, the children worked on coding and Sumdog. The paintings they did in Art are going to look creative and colourful on our display. Keep up the great work everyone.

Year 2 Home Practice Friday 8th October 2021
Date: 8th Oct 2021 @ 3:38pm
Another fantastic week in Year 2, the children are really enjoying their learning and trying so hard to follow the Golden Rules. Some of the work that has been produced this week has been amazing and a few children have been doing extra writing at home! We enjoyed reading their stories and looking at their illustrations, a big well done. The story, Burglar Bill is very popular, the children have role-played parts of the story with burglar masks and their Wanted Posters were excellent. In Maths, we have used a lot of maths equipment to solve problems, and class discussion shows the children are gaining a deeper knowledge of place value. In RE, they wrote beautiful poems about all the things they wonder about God and the illustrations were lovely. It was good to go outside for Geography and look at the human and physical features around the school grounds. The children missed Forest School last week due to the bad weather, so it was great to have another session making wands from sticks and leaves, it is always Year 2’s favourite thing to do.

We have had a great week in Year 2, well done to everyone for trying so hard with their learning. Our new novel is Burglar Bill by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. The children made some great predictions about the story and created a list of ideas to help Burglar Bill with the baby. In Maths, we started the Red Rose Mastery scheme, the lessons focused on number and place value. In Geography, the children have drawn and labelled the school grounds and explored the key features of maps. In RE, they wrote their own Psalms thanking God for our friends. The portraits they drew were fantastic, very colourful and in the style of Picasso.
Keep up the good work everybody, we are looking forward to next week, and have a great weekend.

From phones to consoles, our children are exposed to more online risk than ever and it is important that we adults keep up to date to ensure our children are prepared for all they meet online. Here is an interesting article on Internet Security professionals teach their children about internet safety.
How do I keep my children safe online? What the security experts tell their kids
Below we have attached two guides on how to set up your child's phone for privacy. We teach the children not to share their information when online, however social platforms and games will take data from users unknowingly.

Year 2 Home Practice - 28th May 2021
Date: 28th May 2021 @ 4:17pm
What a brilliant summer term we have had so far. You all deserve a well-earned break. Let’s hope for some lovely weather. This week in English we have finished Georges Marvellous Medicine. We have created a newspaper report about the events on the farm and we have retold the story using images as prompts. In Maths, we focused on number patterns and statistics. We looked at questions like ‘How many more children like bananas than grapes?’. These questions can be tricky but we all did an excellent job. We have now finished our striking and fielding unit in PE and the children have had great fun playing a striking game on the yard. Teamwork was key and they did a great job catching and fielding. We had a lovely visit from Year 1 this week. They produced some amazing stories and read them out to their Year 2 buddies. Great listening and encouragement from everyone. We read a book in French about people who wear different hats for their jobs. Then we made a paper hat and decorated it in the style of a job of our choice. We then wore our hats and said a sentence about who we were in french eg Je suis un contructeur - I am a builder. We have also enjoyed taking part in Orienteering Week. The children had a map of the school and had to find a series of letters that spelt out a secret word. What a brilliant half term, full of learning, laughter and fun.
You all looked fantastic as teachers!
We hope you have a relaxing half term. Enjoy the sun and stay safe.

Year 2 Home Practice - 21st May 2021
Date: 21st May 2021 @ 3:36pm
We have had a great week in Year 2. This week in English we continued our story, Georges Marvellous Medicine. We wrote some instructions for making our own marvellous concoction and we used alliteration and similes in our writing. We managed to get up to the chapter 7 - Grandma gets the medicine. The children are having a great time reading the story. In Maths, we have consolidated previous learning and we have tackled some tricky addition and subtraction questions. We answered these questions by drawing base 10 and exchanging. In French this week, we continued to practise the vocabulary for clothes with games, songs and stories. We tried to record our own version of a story with clothes in it! We are approaching the end of our striking and fielding unit in PE and we have really enjoyed practising our over arm throw and striking skills. We really enjoyed playing our strike out game on the field. In Re we have looked at what it takes to be one of God’s Saints. We generated some really thoughtful discussions as a class. A brilliant week Year 2, well done!
Well done to the 21 children who have had a go at the SumDog challenges this week. Those children will receive dojos for going on and completing the work set. There will be a prize for the child with the most individual dojo points this week.

Year 2 Home Practice - 14th May 2021
Date: 14th May 2021 @ 3:54pm
Well done for all your hard work this week Year 2!
This week in English, we started our new story, Georges Marvellous Medicine. We have looked at George’s grizzly old grunion of a Grandma and we created some great character descriptions. We have also looked at poetry and rhyme. We attempted to create our own medicine poem. In Maths, we have looked at place value and placing numbers on different number lines. Our bean plants and cress are looking great and we have kept up with our diaries, carefully monitoring how they grow. In French this week, we started by trying to use our French phonics to spell numbers. We are getting better! Then we read the story Je m’habille et je te croque about a wolf who puts his clothes on before eating someone. We tried to learn the words for clothes by playing some games. During Mental Health Week we have made it a priority to get outside in the fresh air. We even managed to take part in some relaxing meditation sessions. This helped to focus our minds and let go of any worries we had.
Well done to the 22 children who have had a go at the SumDog challenges this week. Those children will receive dojos for going on and completing the work set. There will be a prize for the child with the most individual dojo points this week.
Reading
In Year 2 we aim to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every night and discuss the book with an older sibling or adult to help deepen your knowledge.

Using social media websites is among the most common activity of today's children and adolescents. Any website that allows social interaction is considered a social media site, including social networking sites such as Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat and Twitter; gaming sites and virtual worlds such as Club Penguin, Second Life, and the Sims; video sites such as YouTube; and blogs. Such sites offer today's youth a portal for entertainment and communication and have grown exponentially in recent years. For this reason, it is important that parents become aware of the nature of social media sites, given that not all of them are healthy environments for children and adolescents. - From the American Academy of Pediatrics
Below you will find two guides. One for Snapchat and one for Sadfishing.
